Hummingbird Visitor

Sunday, June 9, 2013

We have been enjoying a regular visitor to our home via the hummingbird feeder.  I don't know if our friend is a he or a she, but I've been calling him Mr. Stripes because of the stripes on his/her throat.  He is content to let me watch him drink and drink and drink from the feeder.

There have been a couple of times when he has flown close to my face as I was watering or weeding in the garden around the feeder, and he has become quite comfortable with my presence as he enjoys a snack.

Below is a short video I took of Mr. Green Stripes feeding away.  He was there feeding for at least a minute and it never bothered him a bit that he was being videoed.

He has quite an appetite - you see most of that sugar water that was in the container was just about gone by the end of the day.  I'm going to have to invest in a lot of sugar this summer just to keep our friendly sweet-loving visitor around!

And while we're on the subject of sweet.... here is our first strawberry of the season...

The strawberry was a little misformed, but we didn't care. We were just so happy to see our first ripe berry that the birds hadn't gotten to first!  And one bite of this berry was sugar-sweet heaven! Oh how sweet it was! Far sweeter than any berry we've gotten from the grocery store.  We are eagerly anticipating the remaining crop of berries that we have growing!
