Winter's Glorious Beauty Lingered...

Monday, March 13, 2017

I think winter is my favorite season... that is until spring comes... and then spring is my favorite... until summer comes... and so on!  Suffice it to say, I love each and every season!  I think that winter is a bit of a bully though, not wanting to let go and move on and let spring have her way. But I forgave winter of her wily ways this past week!

We got a beautiful snowfall, and then the skies parted, and the clouds gave way to sunshine.

The snow was already melting fast under the warm glow of the sunshine, but the brilliance of the blue skies was a sight to behold.

Mountains in the distance are still covered with a heavy layer of snow, a beautiful backdrop to this scene.  We are thrilled about the heavy snowpack in the mountains this year... this means hopefully less chance of fires this summer.

This barren tree next to the river is waiting patiently for spring to arrive... we know it can't be long now.

I enjoyed the last ditch effort of winter's icy grip... spring is coming, and this snow may be our last of the season.

The ever changing skies in the mountains never cease to amaze me.

These two enjoying a pensive moment together.

Cuteness that just keeps getting cuter as she grows!

These two are really going to miss the snow!

Snow is so much fun to play in... and even take a bit of a nap...

Miss Riley's little life has never known the world without snow... and oh how she loves the snow. With most likely this being the last snowfall of the winter, I stayed outside with the dogs just enjoying its beauty.   Gray drippy days are coming with the snow melt, and we enjoyed this last lovely taste of winter together :)

  1. Your pictures are gorgeous. We just don't see snow scenes like this in Georgia! Our little dog is 2 and he has never seen snow! Glad you and the pets could get out and enjoy the beauty.

  2. Beautiful, but I know you are so ready to see green grass, and budding of plants and trees.
We had a very mid winter here, spring came to us a month early. Stay warm ~ have a wonderful week.

  4. Thank you for sharing the last hurrah of winter with us. I loved the beautiful snow scenes and mountain glory. Your furry friends know how to really appreciate the winter wonderland. It's been fun to watch from my home in the sunny south. I wouldn't mind having a little taste of snow again...but for now I will just enjoy it from a distance!! Thank you.

  5. Marilyn, you have some beautiful scenery of God's creation to enjoy! That Riley is so cute! I love the patch of color around her eye. Have a wonderful week, my friend.

  6. Hi Marilyn! Aw! Your ginger cat is so big and beautiful!
I enjoyed your lovely winter scenes. I hope the snow goes away before TOO long. When we lived in Spokane the winters were so cold for so long.
Yes, that's a good point about the snow fall preventing the summer wild fires. We don't need any of those.

  7. Marilyn, the colors are so beautifully vibrant! I admit that I shivered a little looking at the puppies laying in the snow. I know they are nice and furry but I shiver nonetheless. :-)

  8. Photo number 3 would make a wonderful painting. You have a gift with camera. I can't even get my pictures straight (sort of like my sewing.) I've saved it to my painting file and plan to incorporate parts of it into my next painting.

  10. I love all your beautiful snow pictures and of course your fur babies too! ;) All our snow had melted off and now we are dealing with lowland flooding. We are expecting rain all this week with a possible short break on Thursday. I'm looking forward to sunny and bright days but I will try to be thankful for all the moisture at the same time. It will make a huge difference for this Summer's fire season. Be blessed!

  11. Your beauty amazes me time after time, thank you for sharing it with us.
Little Riley is growing I can see it.
With all that fur I can see why she likes the winter.
We've enjoyed some warmer weather with melting. When I return home from Arizona things should be a bit dryer, right now the ground is soggy in places and Donatella doesn't care much for it.
I received a lovely card in the mail today, sweet lady. :-)
A thank you will be on it's way.
    You are precious!

    God bless you~~

  12. Gorgeous, gorgeous snow-filled photos! I too love each season, till the next one comes....but I think I like Winter the least. =) Now, if I had wintry wonderland scenery as you do, Marilyn, then I would most certainly change my mind. Oh your Miss Riley is the sweetest pup. I wonder what she will make of that green stuff once the snow melts. I always love visiting your piece of paradise. Have the most wonderful week, lovely lady.

  16. The snow looks so pretty in your world. It is snowing and hailing here right now. It's a dirty, scary mess. I think I'll stay inside and enjoy your lovely view instead! ;)

  17. Your pets are so adorable. I'm so glad you share them with us in photos. They never cease to make me smile. Your landscape photos are gorgeous. My favorite is the third one down. I showed it to Dennis and he wondered if you'd let him use it in a painting. He would send you a print in exchange. xo

  21. Oh that little Riley girl is just too precious!! We are in the midst of a blizzard here, hoping this is also our last snowfall and boy what a whopper it is!!

  22. There is something special about Riley; her eyes? her coloring? her fluffiness?
Or all of them. Every time is her, the picture grabs me.

  23. Fresh snow on top of the dirty snow always looks so beautiful! I do love seeing it when all the trees are covered with snow.. that is just pure nature's beauty to me.. the snow on the trees. Here in central Oregon we are without snow for the moment.. we could always get another storm though so not holding my breath just yet! I LOVE mountains in the distance and the ever changing vistas they provide us.. you are so lucky to see those wonderful mountains all the time! I have to drive somewhere to see our mountains, but not too far. I'm still taking advantage of the gray days to do some crafting. xoxo Marilyn

  26. Such pretty pictures! We got lots of snow over the past 2 days from Stella...it's still coming down right now. This is the way it USED to be, when I was a kid. Now, everyone panics. It's weird. But, I'm not a snow lover, so I'm ready for spring and summer, for sure! :)

  27. I love winter but do not live in a "winter" state. Not much chance of snow here in Texas...gorgeous photos!!

  28. Oh, how beautiful! I hate to see winter go...but, I know spring will be so lovely with a beauty all its own. Each season definitely has its own personality and blessings. God is so good...I am so thankful to still be here to see another spring being ushered in...so very thankful for the gift of life. It is so fragile and so dear to my heart. Walking with Jesus makes each day sweet, even in the midst of great trials. Thank you for sharing your amazing world with us here, sweet friend. Sending you love and hugs!

  33. Hi Marilyn! We got about 4 inches of snow in the last few days, and it's been so fun for the grandkids! The five year old went out with a fork and a plastic cup and started eating it with gusto. So fun to watch her!
Yes, winter is holding on a little late this year, but as you said, it's so great that you have so much mountain snow pack. God is good!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

Your photos are gorgeous and Miss Riley is so cute!

  37. You sure make winter look beautiful and I really don't mind it myself, just get little impatient by March to get outside and make garden plans.
Riley will have a whole new playground in summer, eating grass...and who knows what else.

    1. By the way, I copied some stats for you about the comment on laughter and healing: Diabetics who suffered heart attack were polled after 30 minutes of comedy daily. It made them 5x less likely to have another attack. Laughter raises levels of disease fighting immunoglobulin’s by 14%.

  40. I'm like you--tempted to think each season is my favorite. Though summers down here in the south can be brutal, but I used to love them up north where they were more moderate. Your photos of late winter are lovely, not to mention your pups. I hope spring comes soon for you!
