A Visit with my Dad

Monday, June 15, 2020

My dad flew recently to visit with us.  It was hard to know how things would be for him flying with all the covid-19 regulations, but thankfully, he flew without any difficulties at all.

One day we visited Schweitzer Resort.
It was a spectacular day with lots of incredible scenery.

There was still snow at the top of the mountain,
with lots of water running down the mountainside.

Singing waterfalls were found in many bends of the roads.

One afternoon we went down to our little lake to enjoy the warm spring sunshine
and soak in the beauty of the lake.

One afternoon we visited some neighbors and their donkeys wanted to visit with us too! They have 2 donkeys, a brother and a sister, Fred and Wilma... sweet and friendly souls!

We had several picnic lunches, but our favorite was the sandwich from a local Mennonite store,
and we took it to the riverbank, and enjoyed the view.

Their sandwiches are so huge that we could only eat half,
and saved the other half for another day's adventure :)

Our attempt at a selfie together ;)

Dad helped me with getting some vehicle maintenance done,
and this little station was a throwback to many years ago with their vintage gas pump!

And since neither one of us can resist a good piece of pie,
we enjoyed a piece of this cafe's homemade lemon pie... oh sweet delight!

I took Dad by to see some dear friends of mine who have been shut in because of the covid.  We visited outside, and he loved looking at their beautiful vintage pickup.

All too soon, our good times together had come to a close, and it was time for Dad to fly back home. Oh how we've missed having him here!  It was such a wonderful visit in every way, and we look forward to when he and my mother are able to return for another visit soon.

With all that is going on in our world right now, I find my solace in walking in early mornings and late evenings in the golden light of those hours.  One evening as I was walking the dogs, my heart was heavy for the sadness and heartache in the world.  As I glanced up to the skies, I couldn't hardly believe what I was seeing.  Do you see it too?  I do believe the Lord speaks to us through His creation, and as this incredibly gentle yet invincible hand appeared in the sky, I felt as though it was the LORD reassuring me that this is still HIS world, and He does hold this world in the palm of His hand.  We can rest in that comfort, despite the unsettling things happening in our world around us.  I pray your heart will be comforted, knowing that His Hand still holds this world, and nothing escapes His attention.  It brings great peace to my heart to know and see His picture in the sky for me... and for you...

If you have a social media account, and would like to share the above picture, I welcome you to do so.  Perhaps it will encourage another's heart, as it has mine.

With much love and blessings to all!

  6. Such precious times you had with your dad.... so happy for you. Those moments are unforgettable.. when you can have that one on one time which seems so rare. My dad has been gone from this Earth for 19 years and I still miss him in so many ways. We spent lots of time when I was a child, one on one, and I was his "tomboy" so he took me with him on fishing and camping trips. Such cherished memories! I did not "see" the hand in the sky, but once you told me what you saw, then I could see it too. If we just look up, sometimes we will see many amazing things! Hugs to you.. Marilyn

  7. I'm so happy that your visit with your Dad was so precious and filled with moments to store away in your heart.
Thank you so much for that last photo. My heart has been very heavy too and I'm at a loss as to what I can do. I pray to my Father constantly and sing the old hymn, "This world is not my home, I'm just a'passin through." over and over again as I have for the past several months. Oh how I long for His return.
Praying for a wonderful week for you my dear friend. The rain is supposed to stop tomorrow and blue skies return. Won't that be nice after the past few days?
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  15. Oh, sweet friend! I am so happy you had this precious time with your dear Daddy! OH, how I miss mine! What I would give to have him come and pay us a visit and spend time with us! Dear Zach didn't get to meet him. I was 11 1/2 weeks pregnant with Zach when Jesus came for my Daddy, and so often Zach will talk about how much he wishes they could have met. I am so thankful you shared about your sweet visit and all the wonderful memories you made! He looks so sweet and kind, and I know he was a big help to you. And, that cloud formation!!! I can't believe how much it looks like a hand. What a comfort and blessing it is to know that He still holds this crazy world in His hands and nothing is happening that has escaped His attention! Sending much love and many hugs your way today!

That last photo is just breathtaking...but I must admit, that sandwich is a close second...lol! Seriously, there is nothing that soothes the soul quite like taking in all of the majesty our Creator has given us. Blessing to you, dear Marilyn.
