Birthdays, Blooms, Babies and Mothers

Here we are in May, the month of blooms and springtime joys! This spring has been a busy season for us! Spring is always so welcome, and we've certainly enjoyed the beautiful "bloom parade"!  But it has been exciting in other ways, too!

In April, we celebrated our son's birthday with a big party with lots of food, of course!

But what made the party so very exciting - in my opinion anyway - was their announcement of a new little Baby Moseley on its way! Yes, I am going to be a Gramma again! We are expecting the little one around the middle of November! OH, I am over the moon and thrilled beyond words! The Onesie says "And then there were FOUR"... well, at first we all thought "twins" - but then on closer inspection, we saw a pawprint instead of the heart, and they assure us that there indeed is only one baby!

A few tidbits from life recently...

Greens and blues of springtime make my heart happy as I walk each morning!

A pot of soup I made recently - we are still enjoying soup still with some rainy days we've had. There is just nothing like a good pot of soup on a rainy day! I cook my roast beef in the crockpot, and then we enjoy it in soup later. You can find the recipe for this soup in my cookbook :) It's very easy and sometimes I just call it refrigerator soup (Or clean out the kitchen soup). This soup has a base of beef (stewed, hamburger or roast beef), canned tomatoes, taco seasoning, and whatever veggies happen to be on hand. I also always add a container of whipped cream cheese to my soups just before serving - just "marries" the flavors beautifully.

After cleaning my eggs, I let them dry on the counter while I mixed up a batch of sourdough biscuits for dinner to accompany our soup. These freeze really well, and so I make extra and freeze them for when I don't have time to make biscuits.  You can find the recipe for my Sourdough Biscuits in my cookbook :)

I was blessed to be able to attend a Christian Writing Conference in Issaquah, WA a couple of weeks ago. I learned so much, and had such a wonderful time meeting new friends. I am working on another book, and got some marvelous creative help with that book.

The flowers were just glorious! The azaleas were incredibly gorgeous in full bloom.

As were the rhododendrons!

My friend, Stacy and I walked down to the Lake Sammamish and enjoyed early morning views there.

We walked through the park area close to our hotel, and it was a joy to enjoy early in the morning before our writing classes began.

Such beauty in bloom filled my heart with anticipation, as we await those blooms here in Idaho!

On a recent stroll around our downtown area, there were some beautiful blooms to enjoy.

Don't you just love this season of the year with the parade of blooms!

Our old mobile home has been moved off the property! Husband and son have been working hard to get the prep work done for the concrete to go in.  Perhaps in the next couple of weeks, that will get done!

We enjoyed a Mother's Day stamping time this month! I made the card with the daisies, and it was fun to put it together using the Paper Pumpkin kit available through Stampin' Up.

Oh my sweet Danika - how I've enjoyed every minute with her! She is crawling around now and loves being mobile.  She is such a precious little darling and gives Gramma the best hugs! (I would love to show a picture of her cuteness, but keeping her parents' request to not show her face).

Thinking of the precious mothers in my life, and how blessed I have been with their influence, love, and prayers - from my great-grandmothers, grandmothers, mother and mother-in-love - I have been blessed beyond measure with their love poured into my life.  I would not be who I am today without their sacrifices and giving hearts. I pray that each of you precious ladies today - both those who are mothers, those who have mothered, and those who have lost children - that the comfort and love of the Lord would be with you if your heart is grieving, and that your family would show their love and support for you today. My life has been enriched by all the loving women who, as a whole, have ministered to my heart, supported me, and most of all, prayed for me.

In honor of my mother, my mother-in-love, my grandmothers, my aunts, my sisters, my cousins, my sisters-in-law and all mothers in my life who have prayed for me, I made this video.

May your heart be blessed as you reflect on the prayers that have been prayed for you by our mothers! To each one of you dear readers today, I pray for you, and hope that your heart is full of good things on this day of celebrating the mothers in our lives.

Much love to you!

  1. Marilyn,
You've been having special times! Another grand is always welcome! I'm curious about the photo of where your old mobile home was. Are you going to use that space for something? A barn?

  5. The best news to a Grandparent's ears are that a new little one is on the way. Congratulations Grandma! I'm so happy for you. Our oldest grandchild just finished her second year of college in Bozeman this week and our second is graduating from high school in two weeks. Our third is finishing her first year in middle school and little "Baby J" is three and will begin all day school in London next month. I think that's very young, but I'm told that's the way it's done there. No more nap times.
Your photos are beautiful and make my heart long for the northwest. We're heading that direction in July for a month, including a few days in Lincoln City, OR. How we miss the beautiful springs and summers there in the mountains.
I'm glad you had a happy month of April and Mother's Day. We're still adjusting to the new "normal" of not having Mom here to care for. Life is indeed different.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  9. Marilyn, it's wonderful that your son and daughter-in-law are going to have a baby. Little Danika looks so cute and interested in all the play things on the ground. I will see my little one next month, and she's past the crawling stage, she's walking all over! Your pot of soup looks delicious, and so comforting on a rainy day. We've had a few rainy days as well. The flowers are in full bloom in your area, and such pretty colors. Sometimes we see the most lovely blooms on the main streets of our town. The daisy card you made is so cute, and homemade cards are really the best. It's always a pleasure to see Idaho's blue skies and mountain views.

I hope you have a wonderful month of May. May is such a pretty month when everything is green and blooming.

We are on the west side of the Cascades so we drove through Issaquah on our way to Bothell on Tuesday. Your writing conference sounded interesting. Blessings!

  14. Oh, my! I hardly know where to begin to comment on all the goodness in this post! First of all, a BIG congratulations to your son and daughter-in-law, and you and Dan on the blessed news of a new baby! Oh, dear friend! I know your heart is overwhelmed with joy and gratitude! It will be so sweet that little Danika and the new baby will be so close in age and can grow up together!! I am so looking forward to your next book! What a blessing that you got to go to the writing conference! Happy Belated Birthday to Ryan! Your soup looks so amazing and made me hungry! Your biscuits, too. I love the beautiful card you created. You always do such a lovely job, and the many handmade cards you have sent me through the years have been such a dear blessing to me. I am not sure if you got to read my latest blog post yet, but more congratulations are in order because you won the giveaway for a one-month subscription to "Letters from the Countryside!" I love the song you shared. I remember hearing that song years ago. You are such a blessing, dear friend. I pray God will bless and reward you richly today.
