A Season of Thankfulness

Monday, October 13, 2025

This year has been one of the loveliest Fall seasons! It is true, I probably say that every year - but this year has really been outstanding. We just got our first frost on Saturday, October 4, and a freeze on the 5th.  Most of my garden survived the frost, but the freeze stopped everything in its tracks.  I was able to leisurely pick my garden the week before in beautiful 70-80 degree temperatures - almost unheard of weather for this time of year! Now - it is the season of ripening tomatoes in cardboard boxes covered in newspaper, and canning at least 1-2x per week. The harvest season - for us here in North Idaho - lasts well into November

Frosted sunflower - even in death... such beauty!

Frosted petunias that are still alive. I'm amazed at their resilience!

Frosted marigold are quite truly frosted magnificence!

Our precious granddaughter, Danika turned one year old this past week! Her "big" party will be held soon, but we had a fun day at the park on her birthday with a few gifts.

She is walking everywhere now! She took her first steps about a month ago.

We enjoyed a wonderful time on the swings. It was such a beautiful Fall day!

I'm staying busy in the kitchen with all my tomatoes!

I made some Egg Bites (with cottage cheese) - oh so good! I freeze them, and then reheat them in the mornings. An egg-xcellent breakfast that is quick and satisfying!

A frosty sunrise in my garden... It's always sad for me to see the plants in their frozen state, but I was so thankful for the great harvest that we did have this year!

It was my husband's birthday this weekend, and we had several birthday gatherings, so I made coconut creme pie and pumpkin pie

My collection of ripening tomatoes and other garden veggies picked and waiting to be processed...

Birthday dinner for Dan... we will have Danika's party next weekend.

Happy birthday to my husband!

The October moon was such a beauty to see!

The light was so bright throughout most of the morning.

Ryan and Alanna just purchased their first home! We are so excited for them, and for Baby Clara. It is a lovely home just a few minutes from us, and after living in a tiny house for several years, they are excited to have more room, especially with Baby Clara due next month.

Canning! It feels wonderful to put up food for the winter months!

A beautiful Fall sunset - God's giftings to us morning and night with such magnificent skies. I can never thank Him enough for the joy I feel when seeing the skies decked out in such beautiful colors!

Fall is a beautiful season of harvest and is the perfect time to reflect on the blessings in your life with a heart of thankfulness!

To my dear Canadian family, friends, and readers, I want to wish you a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving as you celebrate this weekend! It is truly a joyful season to reflect on the blessings of the Lord in our lives and give thanks together with family gatherings with delicious food and precious fellowship!

As we consider the blessings of the Lord in our lives and take time for thanks and praise, I'm sharing a one-hour instrumental piano praise video below if you'd like to listen and consider the blessings in your life to give praise for.  Even though here in the United States we don't celebrate Thanksgiving until next month, we can still rejoice in this season of thankfulness for His goodness.

Many blessings to each of you!

  5. The fall foliage here in eastern NY (and up in the Adirondack mountains) are a bit muted this year but they're still wonderful. My two maple trees in our backyard are JUST starting to turn yellow but we haven't had a real frost yet. Today we are getting rain and we are thankful for it and hoping it really does rain tomorrow and Wed as we've been in a drought. my sister's well is just finally beginning to get more water but they have a ways to go.

I LOVE the pics of Danika...Happy Birthday to her!!
And how fun for your son and his wife and soon to be baby girl to have a new house in time to welcome Clara to the world.
THank you for another wonderful music video!! I'm in the midst of making Shepherds Pie for dinner with some fresh bison I bought at a bison farm up where i was hiking Sat (about 2 hours north of me) and so I will finish the preparations while listening to the video.
I have been baking many apple treats as we had picked SO MANY apples at one of the local apple orchards.
    ENJOY the rest of October!

  13. Happy Birthday to your hubby and Danika, wow it is hard to believe it has been a year aleady. Congrats to the kids and their new home, sounds like it was the right timing to get it :)
I did not know you could do that with tomatoes to get them to ripen, I have put mine in a paper bag before so I guess that is the same thing. We are going through a very HOT spell right now, warmer than normal temps but i am sure we will get some fall weather soon.

  22. I'm late in answering this one! Your Fall frozen photos are gorgeous! You live in one of the most gorgeous areas! it's always kind of sad to put the garden to sleep for the winter. We haven't had a frost here yet, so I still have tomatoes on the vine and I continue to pick and eat them. Not really enough to can but I'm enjoying sandwiches with tomatoes, tomatoes with my eggs and in my salads! They are cherries which I love and so sweet. Happy Birthday to your dear husband and sweet granddaughter! Those pies look awesome. Your life is abundently full, that is for sure! I wish I could know the joy of having grandkids, but I don't, so can only live it through those who have them! I always wonder, how can someone love a grandchild so much, even more than their own child? It's hard for me to fathom, but I'm sure there is a truly special bond between "grandma" and grandbaby..maybe different than we had with our own child. I can see the joy on your face as you gaze as sweet Danika! Have a wonderful Fall weekend! Hugs.. Marilyn (I show as anonymous and can't get it to go back to what it was!)

  23. Hi Marilyn, After my computer being in the shop for several weeks, I'm finally catching up with everyone. Fall there looks as though it was beautiful. We haven't had a frost or freeze yet, but it's getting closer all of the time. We winterized our camper last weekend so the freeze can't be far behind.
I enjoyed catching up with all of your garden goodness and how can Danika be one already? We have another grandchild due in April in London. We're spending Christmas there this year and since we have already bought the tickets we're unsure wether we'll be able to go back when the baby is born.
I love the house that Ryan and Alanna bought. It looks just perfect for a young family. How blessed you are to have your children so close. Here we are with one in Montana, one in the UK and one in Nebraska. I'm so grateful for technology that allows us to stay close.
Take care and may God bless your family and that new baby that's coming soon.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy
