Homemade Honey-Silk Body Wash

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

I've been making my own body wash for some time now, and I just ran out of it today.  I thought it would be a perfect time to share with you how easy it is to make your own body wash. It requires just a few simple ingredients.  It comes together so easy, and makes your skin feel like silk afterwards... it is oh so worth it!

The ingredients are quite simple... and you don't need a scientific degree to understand what the ingredients are!

Here you can see that the four main ingredients have been added - honey, glycerin, Dr. Bronner's castille soap, and skin oil.  I love the layered look!

And then add your favorite combination of essential oils (I used Thieves, a Young Living oil) .... (and no, I am not selling it... I just happen to love it!)

Tipping the bottle to mix it all up...

And there you have it - easily made in about 2 minutes - an luxurious Honey-Silk body wash that soothes your skin while it cleanses it.

Want the recipe? I'm happy to provide it.  I've experimented with different body washes that I've found recipes for, and this is the one I'm happiest with.

HOMEMADE HONEY-SILK BODY WASH

3 tbsp raw honey
3 tbsp vegetable glycerin
3 tbsp castille soap
2 tbsp vitamin E oil (olive oil, rose hip oil, or other skin oils will work)
12 drops essential oil (I used Young Living Thieves, but your favorite essential oil would work)

*Use an empty clean container that is at least 8-10 oz.  It needs to have a pourable lid which makes it easier to use in the shower.  I use a plastic container because glass containers are dangerous in the bathtub.

In your empty container, add the above ingredients.  Close the lid tightly and gently turn upside down, and shake a few times until mixed well.  Use about a quarter size on your washcloth or sponge.

Note: If you find that you would like more bubbles, you can use a bigger container, and add more glycerin to the mixture, which I've found helps create more bubbles.

Making your own body wash has a bit of a startup cost at first, but after you invest in the ingredients, it makes a lot and lasts a long time, and you have a body wash for your skin that nurtures it while cleansing it.  Best of all... you can customize and experiment with the skin oils, and essential oils to get it just right for you and your skin.  :)

  2. A beautiful looking body wash, indeed! Yes, those layers look lovely, and I'm sure it smells wonderful, too.

I see you had your first snowfall! Your pooches look like they are thrilled to be playing in the freshly fallen snow. According to the farmers' almanac, the Greater Toronto Area will have a mild winter; let's hope so, but I do wish for plenty of pretty snowfalls, too.

    Have a great Thursday!

    1. Yes, it is really a lovely present to make for yourself :) YES, we did have our first snowfall, and several others since - but none have "stuck"... winter is introducing itself slowly, and I'm okay with that! Hope you have a wonderful winter in Toronto... I agree that snowfall is beautiful, I absolutely adore the snow falling down out of the sky .... driving in it - not so much! I just like to stay home and watch it snow, lol! Have a wonderful day Poppy, thanks for stopping by for a visit, I've missed you!

  3. I have heard so many good thing about the Thieves Oil. I use glycerin on my feet (just as it is-and put socks over it to work overnight). It leaves me feet soft and keeps them from cracking in the winter. Here, I have to sign for glycerin at the pharmacy. (I guess they can use it for making bombs, too)...I must look like a mad bomber...huh? lol Anyway, it is wonderful for softening the skin. xo Diana

    1. Yes, that Thieves oil is pretty amazing. I use it for so many things, and just love it. I have never used straight glycerin on my skin, but that sounds like a great thing to try. My husband suffers from cracked hands in the winter. You have to sign for glycerin at the pharmacy? Wow! I got mine locally with no problem. That's crazy... and no you do not look like the mad bombber, lol! Appreciate your comment, and always your visits here Diana :)

  4. I love making my own household products. My dear friend taught me last year to make goats milk bar soap. I love it. The Cinnamon and Thieves is my favorite. I've also made a body scrub, lotion and a foot scrub. I've made homemade deodorant which is amazing too! Yes the start up cost is kinda pricy, but it is so worth it once you see the benefits!
I got this one written down, I will be making it soon!
    Thanks for sharing!
    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Oh me too... I make so many things now, it has really cut down on my cleaning and toiletry bills1 How awesome to make goat milk soap! I have made it from the melting soap that you can buy, but not with lye. Hopefully someday I will get brave and try that too! I've made homemade deodorant too, and loved it. I hope you enjoy this addition to your homemade toiletries collection... it is pretty awesome :) Hope you are doing well my friend! :)

  5. You are very resourceful! I'm wondering, though, what kind of essential oil would be named "Thieves"! :-)

    1. LOL... it is an old essential oil, and there is a story behind it - I can't remember it all now, but you can "google" the name thieves oil, and it should give you the history behind it. But, whatever is in it, it really smells amazing and works wonders for many different ailments. I trust you are doing well, and hope to get by to say hello to you in "blogland" soon :)

  7. Oh, my, this looks wonderful! I have never tried making this. Zach and I have made lye soap a few times. That was a lot of fun, and oh, the soap was so smooth and creamy. :) You make me want to go make some soap or something crafty!! God bless you, sweet friend.

    1. The body wash really is lovely, and your skin feels so soft after bathing, I like how I can customize it too, with my own essential oils, and skin oils. Gathering ingredients really is the biggest part, but once you do that, you have enough ingredients to make body wash to last for a long time. Appreciate your visit today, and hope you are having a lovely day :)
