Day by Day

Saturday, February 25, 2017

The winter days are slipping by, slowly, one by one!  The snow is halfheartedly melting, but we can't get too excited, because more is on the way tomorrow.  So there is just a little bit of this, and not much of that going on.

Our driveway has been and still is solid ice, so this gentle snowfall was quite welcome, to add a bit of layer and texture to the ice.

This glorious view was stunning on a quick trip into town this week.

One never tires of this view... it changes and recreates itself in a fresh way, every day!

Little Miss Riley wanted up in my lap while I was working at the computer, but then my lap wasn't good enough, she wanted on my desk!

Perfect spot for a nap!  Seeing her sleeping there so peacefully made me think about stopping for a nap too!

Mr. Simba doesn't care for the snow  too much.  He tolerates it.  He was happy to have found a spot to sit and gaze comfortably out at the world without having to sit on a snowbank.

Soon, the rest of the crew showed up to just... sit!

You can see the budding friendship between Mr. Simba and Riley - or not!  Miss Riley tries so hard to befriend Mr. Simba, but he continues to be very grumpy and cranky.  But!  At least I got a family picture here of all of them together, how amazing is that!

Then these two decided that was enough sitting around, and they romped and wrestled for a while.

Mr. Simba had enough of all their nonsense, and decided to get away... fast! A cozy spot in front of the window was much preferred to all of this.

Having too much snow fun!

Since Mr. Simba vacated the coveted spot... Miss Riley took over the spot gladly, and watched the chickens with great interest.

So there you have it... a little bit of a whole lot of not too much of our February winter days :)

  4. Hi Marilyn,

    Beautiful banner!

What a gorgeous photo of your fur babies! I can't believe you snapped them all sitting together; looks like it lasted more than a second or so, too.

Your landscape is stunning! If I lived in such surroundings, I wouldn't mind the snow, I think.

Ms. Riley does look very comfy snoozing away; I think it's time I took a nap, myself.

    Happy weekend,
    Poppy

  7. Haha, I think Miss Riley thinks she's a cat. Napping on the table, sitting up on the chair watching the chickens. So cute. I wonder if she'll keep trying to do these things as she grows up. The family pet photo is adorable. Your photos are filled with beauty and joy. A perfect Mountain Top Spice. Hugs, Nancy

    1. No, that river doesn't usually freeze over, it is so deep, but during our deep freeze this winter, it did start to! Which was pretty amazing to see. Thank you for your kind comments, the pet photo was a chance in a million, I think... I doubt I'll ever get it to happen again, lol!

  18. Hi,
I love, love the photo of Mr. Simba in the chair and the dogs around him. That could be a photo card!! I just love it.
How much does Mr. Simba weigh, my boys want to know. From the photos they think he is a HUGE cat. ;-)

    Replies
    1. I am not sure how much Mr. Simba weighs, we think about 10 pounds. He is very shy about his weight, you know, and hard to pry that information out of him {smiles} I found it neat that your boys were interested in his weight :) Yes he is a pretty big cat, but not the biggest we have ever had. His favorite thing to do is sleep, lol :)

  21. Hi Marilyn! Having pets is just like having children, isn't it? We want them to get along, and play together. I guess Simba is going to need a little more time to adjust to the newest puppy.
It does look like your snow isn't quite so high, so that's good. I always love your nature photos, I could stare at them all day. You truly do live in a beautiful place.

  29. Oh Marilyn! Your header picture is breathtaking! What a gorgeous view you have, my friend!

Mr. Simba is a beautiful cat and looks very much like the cat our son had growing up...perhaps I told you this before? Anyway...our daughter also had a cat and they would dress those cats up in doll clothes and push them around in the doll baby carriage.

Riley is growing so quickly! Love the picture of her after she took over occupation of the chair while she was watching the chickens. Out of curiosity...does she herd the chickens or even make an attempt to herd them?

Hope you have a great week!

  33. I'm so envious of your beautiful lakes there! sigh.... and I love the "family picture" of the doggies and kitty.. how perfect is that??? Love it. I see Riley loving your desk... yes I put a folded up afghan right by my laptop on my desk as my cats always want to be 'right there" when I'm working and would try to lay on my laptop or on my lap! so now they've learned that the pink blanket is their "spot"... trouble is, when one is there, then at least one other wants to get up there too. Not room for another blankie so they have to learn to take turns! Your white huskie/shepherd? is beautiful.. he reminds me of the dog my son got when he (the dog) was 6 weeks old. He was part shepherd and part wolf and he and my son were buddies for 15 years until Dusty passed away.. they had such a special relationship. Here's hoping your snow commences to melt very fast! 1. Oh the lakes here! They are everywhere, and each one a delight and beauty! How fun that you let your cats nap close by. Maybe I should try to find a place for Mr. Simba close by me too. Perhaps he wouldn't be so angry with poor Miss Riley then! Annie is part husky and shepherd, so they probably do look a whole lot alike, and there are times at night, she likes to go out and howl, and I wonder... if she has wolf in her somewhere! lol! No snow melting going on here... just more arriving! LOL! Such is winter. We'll be glad for all the moisture that we got come summer though!
