December is also the month where gray and white color schemes reign... except in the opening or closing moments of daylight when the skies often open up to glorious colors.
The memory of gray days fades when they end like this! |
Or days when the snow blankets the world, and the sun warms the world with its last glance of the day. |
When the sun comes out, even just for a few moments, joy reigns in the world. |
Had lunch with a dear friend of mine recently at a delightful little spot overlooking the lake. |
We enjoyed salmon chowder, hot rolls, and salad, as we fellowshipped and shared what the Lord was doing in our lives. |
When I got home that evening, I opened the book to see what it had to say for that day, which was December 4th. To say I felt goosebumps as I read the devotional for the day was an understatement! Below is the devotion that was written for December 4th.
It is interesting to note that this devotion was written back in the 1860s, over 150 years ago... and yet still relevant with its message today... The Lord has heard our groanings in the spirit! To quote directly from the last part of the passage it says
"We are to groan for glorification, but we are to wait patiently for it,
knowing that what the Lord appoints is best.
Waiting implies being ready.
We are to stand at the door expecting the Beloved to open it and take us away to Himself.
This "groaning" is a test.
You may judge of a man by what he groans after.
Some men groan after wealth - they worship Mammon;
some groan continually under the troubles of life - they are merely impatient;
but the man who sighs after God who is uneasy till he is made like Christ, that is the blessed man.
May God help us to groan for the coming of the Lord
and the resurrection which he will bring to us."
It was incredible how God took a message written 150 years ago, an accidentally dialed phone call, and a book picked from a shelf of hundreds of books to relay a message to us that He heard our groanings, and to reassure us that our redemption draweth nigh!
It also was a reassurance to my friends and I that God speaks to us even in the little things of life!
Walking in the little bit of snow that we got recently. Annie-girl was more than thrilled to see the snow, as was I! |
Riley agrees! They are my two snow-angels, they dearly love the snow! |
My decorations for Chrismas are simple this year, quiet reminders of the reason for the season. |
A nativity given to me by a friend. I painted the wooden sign "Joy". |
This pillow was gifted to me last year in a blog drawing and I am enjoying it again this year! |
Another reason I love succulents so.... the cold and snow doesn't bother them a bit! |
This is a wreath made from materials at the Dollar Tree, and adds the perfect festive touch to the front door. |
Another recent sunset... how each one of them has been treasured this December, as we've had an unusual amount of gray days with rain, and not much snow. |
My sweet friends that come to meet us each morning as we walk by, rain or shine! |
As this season of celebrating our Lord's birth is upon us, I wish all of you a blessed Christmas full of the sweet presence of the Lord and pray that the gifts He brought to us of peace, joy, and love fill your heart and home!
Such beautiful photos of the colours of sunsets.
ReplyDeleteWe are thankful for all the spots of color in our world this time of year :)
DeleteMy best friend and I have that conversation often, in fact, we had it just last night . Oh how we long for Jesus to return. And how like our God to answer you on that very day with the book you found. It gives me goosebumps. I love all of your decorations and your beautiful photos of the sun rises and sets. Wishing you a very joyous Christmas my friend, as we celebrate our Saviors birth. Many blessings always, Betsy
ReplyDeleteTruly there is a yearning in our hearts and it was such a joy to know He heard and acknowledged that cry. Wishing you a blessed Christmas, sweet friend, may the presence of the Lord be real and glorious in your life this season :)
DeleteMerry Christmas Marilyn - I printed your roll recipe to try this weekend!
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think Debbie, I have been quite impressed by the ease of making these rolls, and the short amount of time it takes. My family requests these rolls most often out of all the breads/rolls/biscuits I make.
DeleteSpurgeon was called 'The Prince of Preachers.' Isn't it encouraging to read these words penned so long ago? Truth is truth and it stands the test of time.
ReplyDeleteTruly these words have stood the test of time, and rang true in our hearts. So wonderful to get such a "personalized" message of hope from the Lord! Truly there is a yearning in our hearts and it was such a joy to know He heard and acknowledged that cry. ReplyDeleteGod never sesis to amaze us even in the little things of life, He shows Himself and is present in our life if we just take notice.
Merry Christmas to you and your dear loved ones, sweet lady~

What lovely phots and words to greet me this morning!
ReplyDeleteYour lunch date with your friend looks and sounds lovely.
Your puppies are beautiful, and look as if they do indeed enjoy the snow!
We here in Pennsylvania will have no snow for Christmas, I'm afraid.
But, we are looking forward to a few days snuggled in with each other and the joy of the season.
Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
It has been rather bleak here this year, without much snow. However, it does look like we may get some snow just in time for Christmas, that remains to be seen, but I'm all for it! Enjoy the delights of the season! Wishing you a blessed Christmas, sweet friend, may the presence of the Lord be real and glorious in your life this season :)
DeleteMerry Christmas, Marilyn! Your photos are stunning. I was just talking about you to my husband, I am constantly telling him about your beautiful pictures and what a wonderful part of the world you live in. I am so grateful that you choose to share it with us. I do consider it a great blessing. And I love finding words that stand the test of time...amazing isn't it? We always think we are so evolved or troubled or uniquely challenged. Then we read something like that realize that despite the advent of technology, times and people really haven't changed all that much!
ReplyDeleteIt was really amazing Kim, to get that kind of "personalized" message from the Lord! It truly encouraged our hearts.
DeleteThank you for your kind words, I love sharing the beauty of this incredible place I live in. The beauty here never ceases to take my breath away, it is always changing, and ever beautiful, even in the gray days, it is still stunning.

God works in such mysterious ways, and I am thankful for the amazing ways He chooses to let us know He is involved in the smallest details of our lives! DeleteMerry Christmas to YOU and your family Marilyn! I'm so behind this year.. finally just today reading your wonderful, inspirational post. How neat that you were led to that book and that excerpt from it for that particular day. God truly does speak to us sometimes, in little ways that never cease to amaze me! You live in such a magical part of this beautiful world my friend.. I envy you every time I look at the wonderful scenes that you capture. How can we not feel close to God when he speaks to us every day through nature? Have a wonderful Christmas eve and day tomorrow. Those rolls look amazing. I so miss real yeast and wheat rolls. I have to eat gluten free and you just can't get that yummy taste with non-wheat flour. Blessings to you... Marilyn
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is hard to get the yummy taste of yeast in other kinds of flour other than wheat... so tough to deal with the gluten issues. I have to be careful not to eat too much gluten, but find I can tolerate sourdough without any issues. It is amazing how the Lord finds ways to speak to us, and I will never cease to be amazed at His creativity in letting us know HE is really interested in the little things in our lives. So thankful for that! Always appreciate your visit, and look forward to the day when you can come to visit :) Blessings and hugs!

Through sunsets and sunrise, through family and friends, chance moments that we didn't plan on, he is an amazing God and always with us even when we don't think he is. Love your nativity too! Love your little snow angels :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit Connie, truly the ways of the Lord never cease to amaze me, and how He cares so deeply about all the little things in our lives, and yet He sees the big picture too. DeleteA belated Merry Christmas to you! We, too, have days of gray here, followed by beautiful, colorful twilights and sunsets. They last such a short time, less than 30 minutes, but are well worth waiting for and savoring. I love Charles Spurgeon's Morning and Evening and have read it off and on for years. What a blessing to get a reminder of His love and care for you. xo Deborah
