Winter is Losing its Icy Grip

Friday, March 8, 2019

While the calendar most certainly says it is March, winter seems to be continuing to dig in its heels and hang tight with its icy grip on us. But we know it just can't last, because the days are getting longer, and the abundant sunshine that we've had lately will continue to melt the snow and soon my cold-loving blooms will sprout their heads above the snow to shout spring has arrived! Until the day when spring really does arrive, we must stay busy and enjoy the weather, whatever it is.

But sometimes you just need color in your world!  On a trip to the local Ace Hardware to buy a snow shovel, I spotted these gorgeous primrose pots, and of course, I couldn't resist, four of them came home with me.  They are perched on my windowsill, a daily reminder that spring will come!

The snowbanks continued to rise this winter until as I walked, I can barely see over some of them.

I have begun a ladies prayer meeting at my home weekly on Tuesdays at 11 a.m.  I made these little cards to give the ladies who come to send out to someone who they prayed for today.  It is wonderful to come into the throne room of the Lord and know that our petitions are heard! Where 2 or 3 are gathered together .... :)

I was trying to get a cute picture of Mister Simba as he snuggled on the couch cushion,
but he was rather perturbed by my efforts... ha!

Happy mail!  My dear friend Mitzy who blogs at BlueRockHorses.com sent me these gorgeous kitchen cloths. She had sent me one for Christmas, and I loved it so much that I sent her money for the yarn, and asked her to make me some more.  She kindly obliged! If you need the most incredible dishcloth that is not too large, and the perfect size for your hand, Mitzy's talents will bless you.  I've bought a lot of dishcloths over the years, and finally, I've found her design to work perfectly for me.  She calls them her "Kitchen Workhorses" and indeed, they are! Thank you Mitzy!

Had some fun making some cute tags!

Winter wonderland!

Walking on ice! But the views are magnificent!

I love how the light fell in thin slices of blue through this photo... It was such a glorious afternoon!

Such a sweet furry face that bekons me every day as I walk by!

I adore wintertime, I really do... when you have views like this, it makes the extra work that snow/ice bring more bearable :)

Driving by the ice-covered cliffs is always magnificent, but no more so than this day when I asked my husband to stop so I could get out and capture the gorgeous color of the sky too.  Such a brilliant blue!

These frozen icicles lit the day up with the light as it sparked around and through them.

A closer glimpse of the beauty of the frozen ice.

When the sun came out, and warmed the air, the chickens decided a venture out was in order.

They mingled warily together as the band of turkeys who live in our pine trees stared them down.

Oh the fluffiness of it all :)

If Miss Gracie's looks could speak... I'm sure she would say "hurry up springtime! I'm tired of all this white stuff"  LOL!

A closer look at one of the turkeys that hangs around our home.

These poor turkey gals are rather sad looking and in my opinion, not the prettiest of animals our Lord created!  {smiles}

In the cold weather, they huddle together with their feathers fluffed to create a cocoon of warmth.  They are survivors!

And when the snow falls so prettily, one just can't help but see the beauty in how it graces every living thing!

Our daughter's car buried underneath the chilly white blanket while she enjoys warm beach weather in Spain! I sent this picture to her as a reality check for her... I'm not sure that made her miss home more though, lol!
She is having a grand time in Spain, and in my next post I plan to
share some pictures with you of her travels and experience in Spain.  :)

I have so enjoyed these beautiful primroses that add such delightful color to my otherwise white world!

Even Mister Simba has enjoyed the primroses... and the sunshine!

This lovely package arrived from a dear friend of mine, Cheryl and really blessed my heart and my day!  I have thoroughly enjoyed using my spice mat, and drinking the chocolate mint tea... have you ever had chocolate tea? Oh my... it is soo good! Thank you Cheryl for blessing my day :)

Enjoying a delightful cup of Chocolate Mint Tea!
While the snow is still on our horizon, I can see it melting a little bit each day. I have a cage around a tree in our backyard, and each day I can see the snow level dropping around that cage... that gives me hope that spring is on its way! And even as the clocks move forward this weekend, and my primroses are blooming prettily in my windowsill, it will probably be another few weeks before we can see the ground again, and begin to look for blooms to pop their heads up out of the earth.

One thing for sure, with the days growing longer, the sun's rays have longer to warm the earth, and soon, quite soon spring will be here.  Until then I'll enjoy the quiet days inside enjoying hot tea and working on the never-ending indoor chores, and soon enough, the busy season of gardening and yard work will commence, and there is no doubt, I am looking forward to it.  {smiles}

I do plant the primroses in the spring in my garden, and they do wonderfully, so a real bonus to both have them for color before spring gets here, and then to have them in my garden too :) Blessings to you, and thank you again for your lovely comment :)

Yes, spring is coming, temps are warming up, and our snow that we got today is turning to rain :) Have a great week!

It doesn't feel much like spring here today with snow falling, but it is turning to rain later, so we know spring can't be far off. Next week our temps will rise into the 50s! I have loved winter dearly, but now I'm ready to be in love with spring :) Blessings to you sweet friend! Enjoy the remainder of your gorgeous blooms!

  14. Happy Sunday to you Marilyn! Loved your photography as usual! Those ice covered cliffs and deep blue sky are stunning. Wow and double wow. Glad you are so optimistic about Spring coming! The little primroses surely do help brighten up the windowsill. Our local Bi Mart put out flowers probably a month ago, as we had been having mild weather, but then the snow and cold came and they all died! They have their bags of mulch and fertilizer stacked out in their parking lot.. all covered with snow! Kind of funny but not funny. I'll be ready for this snow we have here to go bye bye. I love that stamp set you have with the prayerful sayings.. and those little cards are darling. I see you've been spending some time crafting! Glad for you! I too was given some crocheted dish cloths, using cotton yarn, and I love them and got myself some yarn to make myself some, but still haven't done it! I can crochet too! Trouble is, any time I sit down to crochet, at least one cat wants to jump up on my lap.... happens all the time unless I can catch a time when they are outside... which is usually during the day.. and that is when I do my chores, so in the evening when I want to sit, then I'm full of cats! I can just picture you up there in your white world and happy that you enjoy it so much. Seeing your chickens out and about... I could just about "picture" in my mind the green grass and warm summer days! Hugs.. Marilyn

    1. I just love your thoughts Marilyn, I can just picture those cats in your lap and the crochet yarn going everywhere, the little stinkers that they are! Mister Simba is just like that too lol! I don't crochet, and I was thankful to get such a nice set of dishcloths from Mitzy. I'm working on finishing up the quilt I started. I decided to hand quilt it! It looks lovely so far, can't wait to finish it up! Hope your snow has melted, we just got quite a dump of snow today, but now it is all turning to rain, messy! But, we will be glad to see the warmer temps and the melting snow! Hope you are having a great week :) Blessings to you!

  15. Such a beautiful post Marilyn. Although they always are. We’re seeing a bit of snowmelt too, thank goodness. More is predicted for a Tuesday, but the forecast changed from yesterday’s “heavy snow predicted” to a snow/rain mix and it is actually supposed to hit 45 by next weekend. Spring is coming!
How sweet it would be to attend your prayer group. I would love to be a part of that.
    Have a wonderful day.
    Blessings,

  32. Your photos always make me wish I could be there... the snow is so beautiful where you are...I know it is cold, cold, cold, but you make it seem so enjoyable! I've lived in the snow and know what a task it is to drive in it and shovel, etc., but I did always enjoy the scenery all around. Florida doesn't have any such grand scenery, especially in winter! Those primroses are delightful! I've never seen them in pots like that...Such brilliant colors! And the lovely packages you have received from dear friends...you are truly blessed. What a treat...chocolate tea? I would never have imagined it. Love the turkeys and the chickens...Thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us. Oh, and ladies' prayer group/cards/tags, etc. all so wonderful. I feel blessed just visiting here. Thank you.

  34. I'm ready for spring too! It's been a looong winter here and we have had below normal temps since October. But there is an excitement in the air because Spring officially arrives next week whether there is snow on the ground or not. Yay!
Your photos are really lovely. I love how pretty snow looks on the branches of trees and those cliffs are stunning against that deep blue sky. But right now, I'm enjoying flowers more and your primroses are lovely company sitting on the window sill.
I get a kick out of kitties! My youngest son has two cats and they have such wonderful personalities.
Your prayer group is a delightful way to come together for fellowship. Your little cards are adorable and I'm sure they will bless others. Thank you for your prayers on behalf on my Jeff. He's still not doing very well. It is such a slow progress, poor boy! So happy you stopped by for a visit. Enjoy your weekend and the Lord bless you and your loved ones! Sandi

  36. Lovely indeed to meet you Marilyn, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for lifting me up on the post on praying for lost that I write last week, it had attracted little response, I thought I’d made mistakes, and listened to the tormented. Then you came along and several other sisters and cheered my heart no end. When we write a serious bible oriented post Satan loves to torment us.
I loved to see your beautiful surroundings.
I’ve just published a post for St Patrick’s day as it’s already the 17th here. Nice that it’s a Lord’s day as well,
The Lord bless your prayer times on Tuesday dear sister. It’s great to gather around the throne of grace.
    Prayer hugs,
