Snow, snow and more snow!

Tuesday, December 6, 2022

Hello dear friends... we have been enjoying an incredible amount of snow the last few days! I don't remember being able to ski in November here for many years, so this has been a wonderful year for snowy outdoor fun! I know many of you live in warmer climates, or perhaps just don't like the snow at all, but maybe I'll bring a smile to your face to see how our family enjoys the snowy weather we have been getting.

Maybe you need to sip a cup of hot tea, and snuggle up in a cozy blanket for these pictures... because along with the snow, we've been living in a deep freezer! We haven't been above freezing temps for weeks.  Still... we get out, dress warmly, and enjoy what Winter has to offer us! Come along with us...

Walking with the dogs in the snow!

Beauty in the skies all around us!

Winter skies really have amazing colors. I think it is God's way
of giving us color in the darkest months of the year!

There is a lot of white to be seen everywhere but yet... beautiful colors are reflected in the snow from the skies above!

The frosted trees glisten under the bright skies.

The snow-covered landscape lays quiet under its chilly white blanketing.

Some days the sun hides under its cloud cover,
and the trees stand shadowed and still.

A bowl of homemade soup made with veggies harvested from my garden is a welcome treat after cold and snowy days!

We got a winter storm last week that brought us 18" of snow.  Added up with the rest of the snow we've gotten this year, we have over 2' of snow. My husband is plowing in the middle of the storm, to try to keep ahead of the accumulating snow.

We don't usually get this much snow in November...

Snowy hillsides under heavily clouded skies.

The dogs and I always enjoy walking past this beautiful barn.

Annie is such a good walking companion. Riley is too!

I still have pumpkins that have finished ripening. I roasted 3 pumpkins in a 350 oven, and then pureed the pulp, which made 16 pkgs of 2-cup bags of pumpkin! I still have about 20 pumpkins left to process, or give away.
I've given a lot away too! This was a great year for pumpkins in my garden.
What is your favorite recipe with pumpkin puree?

I dropped some pumpkin puree on the floor while processing them, and my dogs licked it up! I researched pumpkin, and it is a good source of fiber for dogs. A treat they can have and enjoy! I will be sharing some of my pumpkin bounty with the dogs now!

Our neighbor's yard with their flag waving beautifully
against the snowy mountain backdrop.

Brrr! Temps dropped down below 0 overnight this past Sunday.  When the dogs and I walked around 7:30 a.m., it had warmed up to a *balmy* 2 degrees.  There was no wind chill, and the sun was coming out, so it really wasn't too bad.

The dogs enjoy sniffing out all the interesting things that have taken place in the forest on our property.

The turkeys don't like this bitter cold and they will huddle and hang together when the temps dip down below zero.

When the blue skies reflect their color back onto the snow,
you know it is cold, but oh-so-beautiful!

Our home with Winter's finest dressing.

I've decorated these wagon wheels and set them out by the driveway to lend a festive touch to our entrance.

After the storms, when the highway was cleared, and the sun came out, we made a trip to town for a few things. We always enjoy the beautiful view on our way to Sandpoint.

My husband and I were in our backyard enjoying the snow. I was cross-country skiing, and he was snow-shoeing.  We are always blessed to enjoy beautiful views of the mountains from our property.

I put together this video of some of the pictures I've taken of snowy scenes for you to enjoy this Christmas season.  We are certainly not having to wish for a white Christmas this year! We have more than enough snow (and it keeps coming!). {smiles}

I hope you have enjoyed this rather wintry post, and that your cup of tea or coffee kept you warm until now.  Blessings to all of you!

    1. We will definitely have a very white Christmas this year! I have learned it is better to embrace what we have no control over, and find a way to enjoy it :) Perhaps a lemonade out of lemons kind of mindset :)

  3. A winter wonderland for sure. It is remarkable scenery and I am so glad to see you enjoy it to it's best. I have not lived that far north, so I am not sure I'd make the cut if I were scooped up and transplanted in such cold climate. I shivered non-stop the other morn at 15 above freezing!

  6. So pretty! That's a lot of snow. We had a big storm before Thanksgiving and got 14 inches, but it's warmed up and melted. We do have more predicted for the next few days.
I love your blue skies! Michigan is known for not seeing the sun much in the winter. We get lots of the gray, overcast skies, but when the blue skies show, we sure enjoy them!

  8. Wow did you ever get inundated!! I've lived in the exact same snowy circumstances when I lived up in Washougal, WA!!! one winter we had 3 feet. I was not in love with it really, liked a few inches now and then but not in FEET!! It is truly so gorgeous there with the lavender skies. We've had a few inches here and there and I'm happy with that. Still some on the ground right now.. I'm so careful now and almost afraid to go out in it! (since I fell). We did get down to 7 degrees the other night.. too cold for me and the kitties who live in my garage! (they do have a heater and snuggly beds). I was never a skier or snow bunny.. so I would be happy to live at our Oregon coast where it rarely snows! Take care.. be careful... hugs.. Marilyn

  9. Oh, how beautiful! WOW! I can't believe you already have that much snow! It looks like such fun to get out in and enjoy! I must say that I don't do as well with the cold as I used to. After living in FL for so many years, it has changed me, and I sometimes marvel that I grew up in OH where we had blizzards and such terribly cold winters! Your home looks so beautiful and cozy and inviting. I can just imagine pulling up into your driveway and stepping inside to the warmth and friendship I know I would find there. I got tickled about the pumpkin hitting the floor. When we lived in the country and had dogs, we once had to give one of our dogs a lot of pumpkin when it was having digestive/elimination difficulties! I had researched and found out it was good for that, so when you said your dogs licked it up off your floor, I knew it would be good for them. Who knew, right? I sure wouldn't have had we not had that experience. God bless you during this beautiful Christmas season, sweet friend.

    1. We have had SO much snow this year, and I am grateful for that, as we always hope that reduces our wildfire season. I find living here, I get used to the cold as it comes on gradually. I do think your blood thins living in warmer climates! Yes, the dogs are definitely enjoying the pumpkin. So many things the Lord created for our good, and our animals too! Blessings to you sweet friend!

  10. Hello,
Oh I do love snow. :-) Your photos are wonderful.
One of my husband's older friends grew up in Sandpoint. They had a farm. He has so many interesting stories of his life growing up in the Sandpoint area.

My husband and I enjoy cross country skiing and snowshoeing too.
Enjoy the snow my dear friend.
    Love, Carla

    1. Oh how amazing that your husband has a friend from Sandpoint - its such a small world! It is such a beautiful area. I haven't had a chance to do much cross country skiing this year, but hopefully within the next week or two, I'll be able to. Have some wonderful winter adventures together! Blessings to you!

  11. Well, that's where all the Christmas weather is!! Hahaha! It's be in the high 50's in my neck of the woods for the past week or so and, while I love {the unseasonably} warm weather, it just doesn't feel like the holidays without a little nip in the air or a little snow on the ground. Enjoy your lovely snow!! xo

  14. Enjoying a mug of hot chocolate while scrolling through your post, Marilyn. I do think the snow is beautiful, especially on the evergreens. I believe one needs to live in the mountains for the best possible winter experience. I know living in the Rockies for several years gave me a greater appreciation of the cold and snow. There's just something about that environment that makes winter special. It's so quiet. So peaceful in the morning after a big snow. I'm glad you're enjoying winter life where you are. We had one snow fall here so far. Not a big one, and it did leave behind some beautiful scenes. Since I have to drive to work five days a week, I'm glad we haven't had a lot of snow and ice so far. It will come soon enough. I thought the song you picked for your video was perfect. Love the country style. Hugs.

  17. Oh, I'm late getting to the snow party!! How wonderful and beautiful it is where you are!!! I love these pictures so much!!! I can imagine how cold it must be for you and the dogs and turkeys, etc., but it has its own special beauty that is just amazing no matter what the temperature. You live in God's winter wonderland! Your soup looks so good...I am thinking I need to make some, but sadly ours won't be from our own produce. I know that would taste so much better if it were possible. The pumpkin puree' looks good too! Glad that it is good for the doggies! Thank you for sharing these lovely photos with us. I am enjoying every one of them with awe and praise to our God, Who creates all of this for us to enjoy!!
