Happy March to all of you! Oh, the first day of March here was unbelievable, high 50s, brilliant blue skies, warm sunshine and promises of Spring in the light breeze. It was a day of rejoicing that Winter's days are numbered, and as much as I love winter, I am now allowing my heart to sing in the promise of spring!
I opened our front door on Saturday, March 1st for several hours to let the spring breeze inside. Oh what a glorious day it was!
I was motivated with the energy from all that sunshine to tackle a long overdue project in my greenhouse. I removed everything from inside, which was a lot of stuff! Then I laid heavy black landscape paper down as I plan to plant in black bags and raised beds this year rather than the ground.
After I finished the task, I enjoyed sitting in my chair and looking at all I'd accomplished. It felt so good! You'll notice it had a bottle of my homemade kombucha with me. I can work all day with just sips of my kombucha and feel great!
Did you get to see the planetary parade? It was amazing to see the moon and Venus in the clear skies.
On Sunday I planted seeds! After organizing the greenhouse, I went through my seeds I had collected last year. I started tomatoes, peppers, marigolds, zinnias cosmos from my own seeds that I had dried and saved and lettuce and spinach from seeds I had bought previously. This is the first year I have not bought any seeds! We will see how it goes!
I have seedling mats in my greenhouse with a temperature timer. I am not otherwise heating it. I do have the seedlings inside a smaller mini greenhouse.
Here is my current seedling nursery.
I've started my seeds like this for many years! I use large empty salad containers with holes poked in the bottom. Once the seeds sprout and have a couple of leaves, I transplant to bigger containers or red solo cups. From there, they will be planted in my garden. This is a simplified process for me, keeps cost to almost nothing and my rewards are generous harvests. It is an exciting time of year to begin this process once more.
While it feels like Spring outside, we still have some snow... but it is melting quickly!
I've enjoyed time with my darling granddaughter, and find it hard to believe she just turned 5 months old! She and I enjoy reading together, her little feet just kick and get so excited as we read! What a blessing to hold her and watch her eyes light up as she hears the stories. She is also teething now too, and we expect a new tooth any day!
There is nothing so special as listening to her little breaths as she sleeps in my arms. It's my chance to pray over her and for all the needs around us, as her momma takes a shower and catches up on a nap too. I'm so blessed to be able to spend this time with her!
I pray that the first of March has brought beauty and sunshine into your life and homes! While I know winter may still share a round or two of snow with us, its ok, because the longer days are here to stay, and the snow won't last!
Thinking of springtime, I hope you'll enjoy this video I made some time ago with the joy of springtime showcased.
Blessings to each of you dear friends! Happy March days to you!
Oh i'm loving all of your pics as usual! And that grandbaby....I just love that you read to her! makes my Early Childhood Special Ed teacher heart so happy to hear! Did you know that babies who crawl tend to be better readers come first grade?? I did an entire research project for grad school on this. Lots of tummy time too. I should tell my sister about your greenhouse. I don't have the space or time to do such a project and my husband would definitely NOT want a greenhouse in our backyard but this year i'm hoping to plant cherry tomatoes, basil, and lettuce in large deck pots. You are inspiring me! Our snow is mostly gone here too as our temps have risen into the 40s and 50s this week here in eastern NY. I'm so ready for real Spring! Be blessed today, Marilyn
I love that praise song, Marilyn; Danny and I just recently sang it at our church. So happy to see that you get to spend so much time with your precious granddaughter, too. I'm thrilled that my own daughter, her husband, and the grands will be arriving this Saturday to spend the week with us. We can't wait to make more special and sweet memories just as you are doing with your little one. Blessings to you and yours!
Hello! I can almost smell spring as it breezes through your home! Your time with your sweet grandbaby sounds perfect. Everyone tells me being a grandmother is the very best thing! I hope you continue to enjoy the blessings in your life. You are an inspiration, my friend~!
Love the song!!! Light of the World..yes and Amen!! You have been one busy lady. The benefits that you will later reap, I know, will be so worth all the labor you put in to making your garden successful this year. Our little one just turned 7 months old, so I know the love that comes from these little ones. Enjoy every minute of having her in your arms.. I know you are an awesome grandmother....
Spring is, well, springing in your neck of the woods. I thought it was here too, until we had a blizzard last night and this morning. Now the sun is out but the wind is still howling. I'm glad you're getting to spend wonderful time with your sweet granddaughter. We're heading to London next week to celebrate our grand daughters third birthday. We've missed the first two but the plane tickets were very reasonable right now. I hope you have a lovely afternoon. Blessings, Betsy
It hasn't been warm enough here to open doors or windows, but I'm so looking forward to it. Love the pics of you and your sweet granddaughter. Time goes so fast. Our grandson is now 6 months old - still working on those first teeth! Good work in the greenhouse!
I like what you're doing in your greenhouse and look forward to seeing how it will go. Sowing seeds and watching them sprout is exciting to gardeners. How lovely to see you and your grandbaby . I know how dear she is to you.
I can see why you're so excited for Spring! I'm amazed at how you plant your seeds and nurture them to grow, all with little cost of money. I've never had a greenhouse! Always planted directly to the ground, usually the first of May. When I lived in Washougal, WA, it was so wet, I would have to wait until May 15th or the seeds would just rot in the ground, but at that place, I had gorgeous, beautiful and bountiful gardens, from little seed packets I had bought, some on sale! Those sure were the "good ole days" for sure. Now I'm lucky to plant a few flower seeds in pots or in my raised beds. I think this year my raised beds will be all veggies and strawberries (which are already coming up) and will use my pots for flowers which I'll mostly plant from seeds. I just can't afford to buy the ready grown plants! Too bad buying larger plants has become too expensive to afford. You have the right idea having a greenhouse. Loved your photos and of you and your grandbaby. What a blessing she is! I kind of feel that spring is springing here.. the local garden nursery just opened and some days, I feel the warmth in the air but not quite yet... have had some really cold nights still! Take care and enjoy that beautiful greenhouse! Hugs... Marilyn
