Memorial Day and Daddy's Hands

Tuesday, May 26, 2026

Happy Memorial Day! We had a quiet Memorial Day at home this year as our semi-trucks had some big mechanical issues, and it took the entire weekend to fix them. I took this picture Sunday evening as the sun was setting - it was such a pretty sky. I am so grateful for the men and women who sacrificed so much for the incredible freedoms that we enjoy today! We remember their sacrifice with great gratitude!

Chives are blooming in the garden, and I am enjoying fresh green onions with my salads now.

A closer look at the head of the onion - isn't it a beauty!

The girls and I spent an afternoon at the park. The city renovated the park, and there were a lot of people who were enjoying all the new equipment. Danika especially loved the climbing tower and slides!

Clara enjoyed her first time down the slide!

The crabapples have finished their bloom cycle, as have the lilacs, which makes me sad. I do love the beauty of those blooms! But any day now, the peonies will make their grand entrance, and that is always impressive!

I found a new Tea Devotional to read! I received it just in time to sit out under my crabapple tree and enjoy reading it, and looking at the beautiful pictures! You can find this lovely book on Amazon called Tea with Jesus and Me! It will be such a blessing to read!

Always love the evening skies here in Idaho - you just never know what the clouds and skies are going to do.

The beautiful sunset bathes my garden in its gentle light.

My Dad's heavenly birthday was on May 19th. We miss him so very much! Dan and I went to his favorite place to eat when he came to visit, and got an ice cream, which is a very rare treat for us. In fact, neither of us could finish. It was just too sweet. Our days of enjoying that much sugar are over! But it was so nice to sit there and remember how Dad and I sat there, in that very same table and chairs, and enjoyed ice cream.

In memory of my Dad's birthday, and with Father's Day just around the corner, I wanted to use the song, Daddy's Hands in a video of my Dad. I think you will enjoy the video of my dad back in the 70s and 80s with all of us growing up. I share some very special pictures and memories of my Dad. As I worked on the video, tears fell often! I am thankful I am blessed with such special, loving, and wonderful parents.

I hope all of you have a great week ahead - I am going ahead with planting as it seems the weather is continuing its upward trend of warmth, and I am hopeful that frost season is behind us. Here in North Idaho, one just never knows!  It is such an exciting time of year to be able to plant the seeds for a harvest in the fall!  My strawberries are in bloom, and the raspberries have beautiful blooms as well. So, it looks like berry season will be very good this year.

Many blessings to all of you!

  4. You have lovely memories of your Father. I will have to find the devotional book. I love the Lord and I am a tea drinker, lol. I see your gas is higher than ours! Ours is just 4.99. Hope the trucks start rolling again for you. Home is a good place to celebrate any holiday.

  21. Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute to your Daddy. Yesterday marked the 26th anniversary of when we buried my Daddy. It has been hitting me so hard lately as I have been taking all our pictures out of the albums we have accumulated and used for years to condense them into a lighter format. SO many pictures of my dear parents and so many other loved ones. It makes me so sad. I surely understand how hard it was for you to make this video. I pray God will comfort you, dear friend. I'm so sorry you had the repairs on your trucks and trust all is well with them now. Sending much love and hugs your way today!

  24. Such dear pictures of your dad in the video, Marilyn. He looked like a wonderful and dedicated dad. Speaking of dads, my dad grew chives in his garden, but I don't remember those beautiful blossoms coming out of them. What a lovely color. The kids had a fun afternoon at the park, and they will enjoy that new playground equipment this summer. The tea devotional sounds nice. And I never tire of seeing those beautiful skies in Idaho and all the nature that comes through your area. I hope June fills you with warmth and sunshine and joy, dear Marilyn.
