Here is another mish-mash for you of some of the little things that we have done in the past few days... nothing big, earth-shaking or heart stopping! I did get in another three hour hike with my wonderful friends, and their two dog... and that might be better described as ... a little heart pounding...!
Went on a hike last week on a different section of the logging trail. This time we decided to take the road less traveled.
We soon found out why it was less traveled...
It was mostly uphill ... It took us two hours going up... and less than an hour coming down... talk about leg muscles getting a workout!
A rock or a snow bank rest stop...
Snow banks make the best rest stops! Even the dogs appreciated a chance to catch a breath!
Just a random picture I took recently of snow here in March! It wasn't too long though, and the sun pushed the clouds away, and the sun came out and melted all the snow... just another sign that spring is coming!
As we were driving this past Saturday on our way into Spokane, my daughter spotted this bald eagle in the field right by the road. I just happened to have my camera with me, so we were able to get a few great shots of this amazing creature!
After a few minutes, the eagle decided that he had enough of our camera snapping pictures, and took off.

The eagle came to land in a tree right above our car, where I got a few more great shots!
After stopping to see the eagle, I thought it would be nice to drive down to the nearby lake, and see if there were any more eagles to be seen. We didn't see any more eagles, but we did see some ice fishermen out on the frozen lake. I was surprised that this lake was still frozen over!

Washington is full of lakes, just as Idaho is. You can't drive very far in this area without seeing a sign announcing a lake ahead.
This is Diamond Lake. It was hard to find a place on this lake to take a picture, because there are houses around the entire lake. The only open view you have is in front of a small lakeside park. The rest of the lake is surrounded by homes built so close together that you could stand between them and stretch out your hands and touch the sides of both houses. I was incredulous at how many houses they have built so close together around this lake. Although it does have an amazing view of the mountains, I don't think I would want to have a home on this lake, because of the "house crowding".
The weather this past weekend was truly gorgeous with the sun shining, and temperatures reaching up to the 50s on Saturday! The day ended with this beautiful sunset that we witnessed over Diamond Lake. And the sun is shining again today - O HAPPY DAY! The snow is melting, and the sun is shining, and so perhaps I'll get another gander out with the dogs today. Now that the time has changed, there is even more time to enjoy the evening daylight hours.
So... I am off to get my house duties done... so that I can enjoy this day to the fullest... May your day be full of the goodness of the Lord and may His many blessings be your song of joy!
Psalms 90:14 says it well, "O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days."

Today I'm writing about a little bit of this, and a little bit of that... so I'll call it Potpourri.... a mixture, and a sampling of life around here the last few days...
Spring is trying to come here to northern Idaho, but winter just doesn't want to leave. So we have nice weather for a few days, and then winter shows back up, and flexes its muscles and really... just doesn't want to leave! This is what our weather looks like today!
HUGE snowflakes drifting out of the sky... simply beautiful!
I have absolutely loved the winter here. Really and truly I have. I know many people who don't, but I have enjoyed the beauty of winter. I love the softly falling snow, the crispy crunch of snow under your feet as you hike through the woods, the sparkle of the snow on the tree branches, the beauty of the frosted fog.... I do love winter. Although I would not call the excitement of driving on icy, snow-covered roads as part of the allure of winter.... for the most part, I have absolutely loved winter here.
And now, I am ready for spring! But... winter is still hanging around. It is snowing like the dickens today, and actually about 1/4 of an inch or so has stuck. But we are supposed to get rain showers this afternoon, and I know it won't last. But it is a beautiful sight to see.
So, I have a conglomeration of photos taken over the past several days, with a hodgepodge of various things that we have been doing to share.... Here goes...
The weather here is so variable. It changes quickly too. Within a few minutes, the skies can clear, and you forget it even looked this bad! I drove into town one afternoon, and this was the scene that greeted me as I crossed the river. The clouds hung so low, you couldn't even imagine mountains were just beyond the fog!
The sun was setting here just after shining beautifully all afternoon. I loved the colors of the clouds overshadowing the dark tree line.

Spiders abound in Idaho. They are the one pesky insect that Idaho has waaaay too many of! We've seen this version of the spider family many times on walks. It seems they love cold weather and snow. I thought that the cold weather and snow was supposed to kill out the bugs? Not so... according to this brave little fella!
On a walk recently through the woods, our playful dog Annie having a blast in the melting snow. I think she is going to miss the snow most when it melts. She is never happier than when she gets to play in the snow!

Following the snowmobile trails... a favorite way to trek through the trails. The snowmobiles pack the snow down, making it MUCH easier to walk on!

I took this picture outside my dining room window one afternoon. The cloud formation was incredible!
Just a few minutes later, the clouds were a purplish blue color and the trees were bright green... although my camera didn't quite pick up the colors too well...
Just a few minutes later, the sky looked like something big was about to happen... snow ... rain.. hail... who knows? Hang around for a few minutes, and it will change again!

And I'll end with this sad face! Cosmo had evidently found something VERY interesting in a deep hole. We were walking through the woods, and he disappeared. After calling him for several minutes, he finally reappeared... and I couldn't help but laugh at his sad looking little face! He looked so pitiful and sad. He knew he had gotten dirty and wouldn't be allowed in the house looking like this! I'll bet that poor rabbit or squirrel is still digging, hoping to keep away from this white furry little fellow!

One of our favorite places to visit is Priest Lake. We've been out there many times. It is called the "Crown Jewel" of Idaho and for good reason. It's waters are pristine and clear with mountains surrounding the entire lake. In every direction, there is a beautiful view to be seen. I thought I'd share with you today some of my collection of pictures from our many trips out to Priest Lake.
One of our favorite spots to go is a park that has picnic areas, and a beautiful sandy beach, along with a shoreline dotted with awesome climbing rocks for the kids.
The views are incredible of the mountains, and the clear blue water.
The climbing rocks that the kids love climbing all over.... kids of all ages will have fun with these!

Priest Lake has incredible views to offer all year round, spring, summer, fall, and winter. It is a unique place to visit with lots of world-class resorts to stay at, if you so choose (we are lucky enough to live so close that we can visit whenever we want). There are far more things about Priest Lake that we have yet to explore, including Upper Priest Lake which is accessible only by boat, or by hiking. That is on our list of things to do soon!

Visiting Priest Lake is like seeing the "strength of God that has set fast the mountains". It makes one want to sing Psalms 66: 1-2 with all your heart! "Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands, Sing forth the honour of his name, make His praise glorious!" Truly the miraculous works of God's hand in the world around us will bring forth praise in our hearts.
Oswald Chambers once wrote "If we are the children of God, we have a tremendous treasure in nature, and will realize that it is holy and sacred. We will see God reaching out to us in every wind that blows, every sunrise, and sunset, every cloud in the sky, every flower that blooms, and every leaf that fades."
God indeed is everywhere, indeed just as close as the breeze that passed you by today. Look for HIM wherever you are at... I assure you HE is there!
