Giant Snowy Hands

Saturday, December 19, 2015

We received more snow the last couple of days.  It was forecast to be the biggest storm we had yet gotten so far this year, and we ended up with about 6 inches of snow.  Oh happy day :)  There was no sun to be seen today, so you will see a rather gray overcast to all the pictures.

The turkeys were out bright and early looking for something to fill their hungry bellies.  They like to eat the leftovers from the bird feeder.

Annie was up to her usual "nosy" snow tricks...

We went on a walk.  We spotted some turkeys in the distance. I had to keep reminding Annie to focus on our walk!  We are walking, not chasing!

There was not a color of color to be seen, just shades of white and brown...

Our tracks in the snow... it is delightful to walk in the snow, and leave your footprints.

There were tiny ice pellets coming down as we walked.  As they hit my face, they hurt a bit!

We went back into our forest to explore the beauty there.  The gentle beauty of the trees was lovely to see.  And no ice pellets in the forest!

Annie loved exploring all the smells, but stayed close to me.

It was amazing to see all the "fingers" or "hands" on the fir trees.  The snow had settled on their frothy limbs in such a way as to make it appear that the trees all had hands and fingers!

Do you see what I mean.. it was pretty amazing!  The snow makes such fun creations!

Typical Annie with snow on her nose..

A close-up of the giant snowy hands!

I brushed the snow off of one of the limbs, and it bounced back up to its usual place on the tree.  It was a delight to walk through the forest and see the beauty the snow had created.

Not a terribly remarkable day for pictures... but delightful nonetheless!  I enjoy winter, and am thankful for the snow that we have.  I say, if it is going to be winter... let's have winter!  The weather forecast ~ thankfully! ~ is that we will get more snow over the next week or so, and so it looks very promising that we will have snow for Christmas.  I hope we get enough to go sledding.  :)

    1. We've had years where the temps were warmer and no snow... but this year I'm so very thankful we are getting this snow, especially after the difficult summer we had! I've just posted another update on my blog - we've had three storms in a week, and it is still snowing today... the most snow we've had in years, I think! Hope you are having a blessed and wonderful day today my friend :)

  5. What a pretty winter walk! I think all your photos are pretty! And I agree, if it's gonna be winter, bring on the snow! We received some rain yesterday with a beautiful rainbow afterwards! Rain is a bit unusual for December in Colorado, but it was sure nice to get some moisture.
I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!
    Enjoy your week!
    Hugs, Amy

  6. It really looks beautiful there with all the snow. The trees do look like giant hands hanging down. It looks like we'll have a green Christmas here - mild and rainy on the 24th and sunny and mild on the 25th. Oh well. We'll get our snow soon enough. Have a blessed Christmas!

  7. Beautiful. Annie is such a gorgeous dog, and I love seeing her pretty coat against the white snow. She's a great companion for you on your walks. The "hands" on the firs are delightful. Great photos. Merry Christmas and God's blessings on the New Year for you and your family.

    1. Yes, Annie's favorite season of the year is winter, and while I love all the seasons, I have a special spot in my heart for beautiful snow in the winter! I love tromping through the woods knee deep in snow, lol! Indeed, the snow on the fir is just so beautiful the way the snow lays on them. Merry Christmas to you dear friend, sure appreciate your visits to all my recent posts :)
