Dainty Pillow Hangers

Monday, February 15, 2016

I was inspired this past week to make some dainty pillow hangers.  I have mentioned before that I was a Stampin Up! demo in years past, and still have so much of their product to craft with.  I had made these pillow hangers many years ago.  They are just darling, and easy to make.

This is the original pillow that I crafted many years ago.  If you will notice where I had pulled the ribbon through, I had just punched a hole with a hole punching tool, and I wanted to change that.

This meant finding out how to use the buttonhole maker on my sewing machine.  I had never done a buttonhole before on this machine.  So in the creative process, I had stop, and find the manual, and teach myself how to make a buttonhole.

Not quite on center, but, it worked! Not bad for my first one.  I was quite happy actually, lol!

It was quite easy to make the dainty pillows.  I used my Big Shot (sold by Stampin Up!) to cut out these square scalloped fabric pieces (Stampin Up! unfortunately does not sell these dies any more, but they can be found here on ebay).

I then sewed them wrong sides together, leaving a small opening to stuff.  After stuffing with batting, I then sewed the opening closed.  Then I added a buttonhole stitch to the top corner and snipped it out with a seam ripper.

Then I threaded ribbon through the buttonhole, tied it, and glued on a die cut-out fabric flower and ribbon rose.

Very very simple... but just the cutest little hanging pillow!

I love crafting simple projects like this.

Another way to use these pillows would be to add some essential oil to the batting before stuffing it, such as lavender essential oil, and these would add a lovely scent to the room in which they are hanging.

These cute little pillows could easily be made without the Big Shot and dies... you could simply cut out whatever shape you desire, heart, square, round, or rectangular etc.  The nice part about having the die machine is that the cutting part is easily done for you!  :)

This is a simple and easy project with just a bit of a "wow" factor when it is finished too :)

  1. Hi MM! I so admire you taking the time to research how to make the button-holes with your sewing machine. I think I'd just make something up instead!
Your idea of adding an essential oil is a great one. Not only a little door hanger, but a room deodorizer too! They are so dainty and have an antique look. The colors are nice for a mid-winter 'pick-me-up' which is needed in the cold days of February. You've been busy!!
    Happy Monday :)

I thought the essential oil would make them useful as well as pretty :) I've had the fabric on hand for a while, and am just glad that I am finding ways to use it! Appreciate your visit so much, and hope you had a wonderful day :)

  3. Oh, these are too cute! I have never done any stamping but I have admired others' work. I like the idea of adding the essential oil to the batten inside. Lavender would be really lovely. Thanks so much for sharing and enjoy your day.

  12. These little hanging pillows are so adorable and you, my friend, are very talented, and patient to figure out the button hole maker on your sewing machine! I do not like sewing at all and my machine hasn't been used for 15 years I'm sure. Have a blessed week.

I too have had this sewing machine gathering dust for many years, and have just recently decided to blow off the dust bunnies and see what we can do together, lol! I like quick and easy crafts, and this one certainly fit the bill... hope you are doing well, and will be popping over for a visit :)

  15. Very darling and a wonderful way to have some nice smelling sachets. I just learned how to use my buttonholer a few months ago. It's why I think I am ready for Shirley's clothes...probably not. I'll cheat with snaps and a button sewed above to make it look as if. Speaking of which, I think I'd chear with these, too.

Enjoyed seeing the baby bunnies in your earlier post. A sure sign of coming spring!

    1. Thank you Amalia, I have to admit I was scared to try the buttonhole on my machine, but I'm glad I did and they were remarkably easy to do! It definitely works better than a hole in the fabric for a ribbon pull through. Appreciate your visit as always! :)
