Easter Sunday, a Snowfall and a Birthday Celebration

Thursday, April 21, 2022

Our Easter Sunday was so blessed and full of wonderful things! Our church holds an Easter Sunrise service every year at 6 a.m.  When we got up to get ready to leave, it was still snowing. We received about 6" of snow, and it really was beautiful, although out of season. It is Spring after all, but we truly are in the season of Springter as I call it, and sometimes it seems more winter than spring!

On our way to the Sunrise Service, we saw these elk crossing the field. I'm sure they were wondering what happened to spring too!

On our way to church, the roads were pretty slushy with the freshly fallen snow.

One of the songs we sang at the service.  Our pastor stood out in the snow and shared the Resurrection message as it snowed heavily.  The bonfire was unaffected by the snow and crackled happily as we worshiped.

Everyone loved the Egg Tortilla Cups that I made several weeks ago for the bible study, so we made them for the breakfast after the service. Again, they were a hit!

Back home... my garden lay quietly under its thick blanket of snow.

I had just finished the day before setting out all my decor.
Now, they lay under the fluffy snow.

Easter was also our son's 24th birthday.  I made smoked BBQ pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches, along with lots of sides, and German Chocolate Cake.  I used a Hot Water Chocolate Cake recipe out of an old cookbook and made my own coconut-pecan topping. It was so good!

Afterward, we gathered around the bonfire and enjoyed the starry night sky as the bonfire crackled and popped. So nice to see this slash pile gone from my backyard view!

The mountains around our home again have snow on them too... such a beautiful sight to see.  Soon the snow will melt, and spring will truly be here.  Tulips are working hard on growing, and I now see peony starts coming up in the garden.  Before long... spring will be here in earnest.  For now, we are grateful for all the
many blessings a late snowstorm affords... more nitrogen for the soil, and it melts quickly!

I will leave you with a springtime worship medley of our Great Lord that I just finished... may your heart be blessed today as we live each day knowing that our Lord's Resurrection has wrought for us the triumphant power we enjoy in our lives today and every day!

  1. Beautiful photos Marilyn. We had heard about the Easter snow and seeing your photos makes us realize once again, how much we miss that part of the world.
Thank you for sharing your weekend with us and Happy Birthday to your son. Hopefully spring will arrive soon and not turn directly into summer.

  2. Snow! You have the best philosophy about it—it will melt soon. Still, I wouldn't have been so cheerful about snow on ๐ŸŒทEaster๐ŸŒท
Sunday. Funny how many families also celebrated a birthday on Easter Sunday. Mine did, as well. Here's to breaking free of "Springster."

  5. Marilyn, you had such a wonderful Easter. That barbecued pork looks so good. My son made a pork roast with a sauce as well. There's nothing like a good roast. You got quite a bit of snow. It's snowing here too as I write, but just a light snow. Your egg tortilla cups look really delicious. Happy Birthday to your son. I hope he had a special day. And those Elk crossing the field. What a sight that was for you! The bonfire looks nice and cozy too.

Have a good rest of the week, dear Marilyn.

  14. WHOA!! that's a lot of snow. Here in NY the western part (and some of the northern) got 6 inches as well but it arrived Monday into tuesday. Where I live (Capital Region in the eastern part of NYS) we only got a dusting. It was gone by evening as the temps have warmed up. YOu have a very positive spin on things at least!

Happy Birthday to your boy and YUMMY...German Chocolate Cake! I'm not a cake fan/eater but i do love a piece of German Chocolate once in a great while.

I hope you have a wonderful SPRING weekend.
