For Sale

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

As if we didn't have enough going on here these past few weeks with the excitement of our well getting put in, our landlord decided it was time to put the house we are renting up for sale.  We had mentioned to him last fall that we were planning to get moved out to our property the following late summer, so he was aware of our plans.  Being as springtime is upon us, it made sense for him to list the house on the market.

As much as I know it is best for him to list the house now, we still aren't quite ready to move out to our property.  After all, we just now got the well dug, and a house is nowhere in sight!

My husband's idea is that we could live in one of these.  Hmm.... I do have quite the adventurous heart. It would be kind of fun - for a few days! lol! At least we would have water, which would be huge.  Our neighbors have offered us the use of a military style tent that they have, should we need it.  It is certainly on the back burner, being considered... however.... we live in an area with lots of these animals roaming around, ALL of which we have seen on our property at one time! ....

My husband came face to face with one of these cats while cutting down some trees.  They had a staring contest, and.... my husband won!  The cat turned and left. Whew!  All he had was a chainsaw, guess that would have been better than a rock!

We enjoy the deer coming through - except when they found my garden last year!  Then, I wasn't so happy about them!

We saw a big guy just like this just a mile or so away from our property, and have seen many elk tracks through our property.  Amazingly, they all disappear right around hunting season!

And we have seen a moose with her newly born calf that was born close by our property.  They came to our property, and settled down, eating quite a few of our trees, making themselves at home for about a week or so in our woods.   Of all the animals and wildlife we have that visit, a moose is perhaps the one to think twice about.  They are very curious animals, and because of their size, can go and do just about whatever they choose.

And we can't forget about the gaggle of turkeys that visit several times a day.

So what do you think?  A tent?  It's very possible, but probably not likely.

More likely it will be something like this:

After living in a large 5 bedroom home for several years now.... downsizing is going to be fun, don't you think?

Our family has decided that we are going to make the best of things, and turn this into an adventure! I'll keep you posted on how that works.  :)

    1. We are very excited about living up there on the mountain, and just have to get through the hurdle of figuring out what we are going to live in, lol! Lots of excitement!

    1. Thank you for your well wishes, sure do appreciate them! I will be depending upon them in the days to come as we get down to the nitty-gritty of doing all this, lol!

  3. Well, I will say this you have the right attitude! I have known people who have lived in an RV for very long periods of time. Maybe the big tent you should still use as a large outdoor living area! I will enjoy seeing how this all works out! Hugs, Roxy

    1. That is a very good idea to have the tent as a living area, and the sleeping area inside the RV. Hmmm... will mention that to my husband! Thanks for stopping by today and for the well wishes :)

  4. Hmm.... an adventure it will be indeed! When me and my hubby were much younger before kids we lived in a fifth wheel for a few years. It was very cozy and we made it work until we could afford to get our own home. But, adding the bigger tent would make it more livable for all, like Roxy posted above. My boys would just love to come to your neck of the woods.... all those animals and not to mention hunting happiness all around! I am anxious to hear as your journey begins, keep us all posted, okay?!

Hugs to you! And I will be lifting you and your family up in prayer.

    Blessings, Amy

    1. Hi Amy, yes indeed, we love the wildlife that come to visit us! We are excited about the adventure ahead, even though we are not sure exactly how it will all come together! I know a lot of people have lived in RVs and so we will see what happens. I will certainly keep you posted as to how the adventure rolls! :)

  5. You have the right attitude. Make it an adventure! I don't know how quickly real estate sells in your area, but here (unless the price is right) real estate doesn't sell fast. So, it may be awhile before you have to do anything. That said, it's going to be fun to see what you end up doing. The mountain lion would be disconcerting for me. All the time I lived in Colorado I never actually saw one, but I know they lived around us. Now elk and deer. . .every day in our yard. And moose less frequently, but we saw them. I have a friend who spent the summer in a pop-up tent with her husband and three kids while they looked for a home to rent. She lived through it just fine. :)

    1. Hi Nancy,

Yes, real estate here is slow to sell, and it is quite possible this house may not sell quickly. However, we really are anxious to get moved out to our property now that we have water, and so will be working towards that end. We are also thinking about buying a park model trailer while we work on building a house. We could certainly do a tent for the summer too. Lots of options! My sweet dog Annie will probably keep all wildlife at bay anyway! LOL!

  6. I am awed by the amount of wildlife you see on a regular basis! I am lucky if I catch a glimpse of a squirrel or a bunny in the summer. We keep fish in a pond (tiny!!) just to have some life around here! I think it sounds like a fun summer adventure to live in an RV...of course, I don't have to do it, but the prospect of that house would keep me motivated! Good luck!

    1. Yes, we are excited about being out there where we can see more wildlife, although with our husky/German Shepherd mix dog Annie, she is likely to keep a lot of the wildlife at bay once we move out there. I wouldn't mind seeing them from a distance though! We feel very blessed living in such a wonderful area. We will see what happens over the next few weeks as we try to decide what to do, and will be praying about it. I'll certainly keep everyone posted :)

  7. No bears there? Personally I would be more concerned about how I was going to stay warm and dry, food refridgeration, mice/ rats. There is also the option of a camper? It depends how long you may end up living in those headquarters and which is the least stressful for everyone.

  8. Yes, we do have bear, although we have not seen any on our property, yet we do know they are "around". I listed the animals we had seen on our property, and I do hope that I never chance to meet a bear there! lol! You are so right, we have a lot to consider because while the summers here are gorgeous, winter comes quickly, and we need a long term plan, which is why an RV may be the way for us to go, until our house gets built. Lots to keep me "pondering", lol!

  9. I should clarify. I mentioned a camper because sometimes you can get them for free or cheap, they have modern amenities and a good place to keep food away from bears and mice. Are you building a basement? I know people who spent several winters in theirs while building the upstairs.

    1. Yes, that is a great idea, and one we are considering as well. We have so many ideas floating around, and soon we will have to make a decision! We do want a basement, although they cost more. We have so much wood on our property that it would make sense to have a basement with a wood stove to help with heating costs. So yes, that is an idea that we could do as well. Lots of options! Thanks for your helpful suggestions! Hope your day is full of wonderful Springshine as well :)

  10. Well it's all very exciting for you and your family!!! I personally think the upside of building the basement and living it is that you are able to burn wood. I love wood heat and think if it as sunshine in winter. Propane heat just doesn't make me warm. I wish you well my friend. Sounds fantastic to me that you are moving onto your property soon! Blessings Ronda

    1. I agree! Propane heat just doesn't get your "bones" warmed! We love having wood heat, plus the fact that we have so much of it to use in our forest. I don't know that we'll be able to have wood heat when we first move out to the property, but when we get our house built, it will definitely be part of the design. :)
