February Sunsets, Moonrises and Fog

Tuesday, February 22, 2022

An incredible sunset coincided with the incredible February Snow moon moonrise.

For the past month, we have enjoyed balmy temperatures, at least for our area! Snow has melted, and dripping sounds have been heard from rooftops.  Bare patches of ground have appeared, and I've heard more birdsongs too.  However, there is a mass of polar arctic air that has come to visit us, and we've had to put off thoughts of spring for another week or so... as we will have very bone-chilling temperatures here for the next week.  Usually, we don't get wind here, but this week, we will have a windchill all week.  Time to bundle up and stay warm and cozy! So as I drink a cup of tea today, and bring you a few pictures from last week, I hope that your week is not as chilly as ours will be!

The moon was so yellow that night!

Here it looks as if the moon is being hugged by the tree branches.

The moon was so bright it lit up the world, even as darkness had settled in.

Truly a magnificent sight to see!

The bright yellow beams of the moon lit up the darkened world in a spectacular way.

A closeup of the moon...

Here is a little poem I wrote after seeing the beauty of the moon that night.

The moon's yellowed form beckoned so bright
as the sun set tonight, its yellow globe of light
gleaming in contrast to the rosy pink brushed
mountains glowing in blushing demure dusk;
these sunset skies so sweetly dress the soul's eyes
as evening shadows whisper tender goodnight sighs.

We've also had mornings where fog hangs low as I walk.  As the day progresses, and the sun warms the air, the fog will dissipate.  I took a picture of this beautiful tree in our neighborhood, and share below a thought that came to me as the fog enveloped its stance.

Illusions...this beautiful tree seems to stand alone
as heavy fog shrouds the surroundings.
It stands tall and proudly strong
as fog cradles its limbs in its depths.

An illusion of course, because as fog lifts and light prevails,
Truth tells the story.
This tree, not alone, stands in a pasture
surrounded by homes and barns, mountains and trees.

Fog in its beauty makes reality unseen,
yet truth prevails once the sun shines through.

In our world, fog has prevailed far too long.
I pray and await the day when Truth,
His name is Jesus will prevail
and the Son will shine,
Truth will reign for all to see!

I will leave you today with another music video I've created, this one includes images of the moon pictures I've shared above, put to the song "Leaning On the Everlasting Arms" by Carman.
May it bless your heart today!

  1. The moon photos are mysterious and pretty, Marilyn, and I especially like that tree photo standing so tall on a foggy day. Winter is not over here either, as last night I opened my front door and the snow was falling. It is a light snow, but I'll take it. As I was reading about your cold temperatures lately, I was thinking about the cold that supposed to come here this week also. It was nice to hear your thoughts about the fog on the verse you wrote. The Son shines in our hearts every day, if only we listen to the whispers. And as I write this, the snow is starting to fall again.....yaaaay, what a blessing.

What a wonderful post today, Marilyn. Your words and photos are a blessing to us.

  2. Good Morning Marilyn, We have that same wind chill you spokane about. It's going to be windy all week and COLD! Wind chills of -40F. I can even hear the wind hitting the side of the house. Love that photo of the tree. It reminds me that sometimes we think we're all alone as Christians, fighting our way through the evilness in this world alone, but when the fog lifts we realize that there are many others out there fighting side by side with us. Jesus is coming soon!
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  4. Beautiful images. I do think that we may have lower temperatures than you do and we've also had strong wind. All this means that I don't go out unless I have to. I left my yard for the first time today, since last Thursday. Stay warm, Spring is on the way.

  9. You got some great pics of the Snow Moon. Unfortunately it was cloudy the nights when we would have been able to see it.
We're also experiencing wild winds and cold temps although I'm sure that compared to yours ours are not all that cold. Nevertheless, we think we're freezing ( at minus 8 or so C.)

  12. Such beautiful poetry, along with your amazing, breathtaking photos! I so enjoyed this post. I have never seen the moon look like that. There are so many strange and unusual things happening in our world. I can't help but believe our dear Lord will soon split those eastern skies and come to take us all home. Sending much love to you, dear friend.

  14. The Snow Moon was a gorgeous sight. Your photos captured it beautifully. Chilly temperatures here, too, and we've had wild winds. Today is calmer and sunny, but still cold. Winter's last hurrah, I hope. Have a wonderful day.

  15. Beautiful photos Marilyn! I love how you always capture the moon! And your words and verses are wonderful and so heartfelt. You have such a way with words when nature touches your heart. I went and listened to the song... very upbeat and good to listen to when we are down in the dumps... we need to be reminded of this. yes the cold front has hit here too... was -2 last night but no wind thankfully. Another cold night tonight, but not as bad I don't think. My poor kitties were getting so bored in the house, but I won't let them out when it gets that cold! Is sunny here today and glorious blue sky.. but so so cold! Stay warm and cozy! Hugs... Marilyn

  16. OH MY! those moon pictures are so gorgeous!! Oh, you are so blessed to have such beauty surrounding you in all seasons! And I LOVE the poem you wrote about the tree in the fog...so perfect. Now I want to see a picture of that tree in the sunlight sometime. I love how fog obscures things like that. When we lived in NH, we lived near Mt. Washington, which is huge. I used to take people around our valley and show them different vantage points where they could view the beauty of Mt. Washington. But often it would be foggy or cloudy and the mountain would totally disappear. I had a saying then as we drove around to this place or that, "On a clear day you can see Mt. Washington from here". People from out of the area could not believe it. I even took my niece right to the base of the mountain on a foggy day and she totally did not believe there was a mountain there. When the sun finally broke through, she was amazed. Your poem is very accurate regarding our faith in Christ. When His SONshine breaks through, we can see that He has been there all the time, making our pathway clear. Love this so much. Thank you. You started my day off just right!
