Happy Valentine's Day and a Tangled Experience

Monday, February 14, 2022

This past weekend we had two brilliant days of sunshine with skies so blue I felt I could drown in their depths, with the sun so bright and all the sparkling snow jewels; it was beauty that one's soul just soaks in every drop!

As I was on my way to a neighbor's home, I saw two large animals standing on the side of the road.  It was a momma moose and her calf.  They turned when they saw my vehicle and ran back to the fence line, where they munched for a few minutes on tree branches as I watched in my vehicle.

For the rest of the story on these two... you will have to watch the video clip that I took of them... thankfully it all ended well!

I hope you enjoyed the sweet little video... it was a real treat to see them both.  I imagine their bellies are hungry after tromping through the deep snow.  We don't see moose that frequently here, sometimes only once or twice a year, so it is a bit exciting for us to have a chance to see them from a nice distance.  :)

Did you catch a glimpse of the moon the last few days? Wow! It was shining during the day here with blue skies and sunshine, so amazing!

Blue brilliance!

Truly I can say I've seen the blue moon!

Do you see how bright the moon is in the picture! It was just stunning to see!

I've been able to do some cross-country skiing lately...

My favorite place to be... on skis with brilliant sunshine in the forest :)

Especially when the views open up, and the river comes into view.

I am so blessed to be able to ski out my back door into this paradise!

All things wrong with the world become a far and distant memory
in the light of this glorious sunshine view!

A blue moon in the bright blue sky...

Evening shadows begin to fall and I reluctantly leave this beautiful place and turn homeward.

I wanted to stay longer to watch the sunset from this view,
but I knew I didn't want to be skiing in the darkness,
so it was time to head home.

This unique cloud caught my eye as I neared home.
I thought it looked like praying hands?
I was praying and praising as I skied... I think the Lord
can give us pictures in the skies as part of His blessings on us :)
I also think I see a heart...
What do you see in this cloud?

Back home from the ski... my little Tinker Belle (she has lots of nicknames)
was waiting for me. "Where have you been Mom?"

Our church hosted a lovely Valentine's dinner...

I made Strawberry Shortcake Trifle for the occasion.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! This is a day to remember those in your life that bring joy and love into your heart. I am so blessed with the most incredible husband and special children and their spouse/fiancee. The blessings of the Lord are rich!

This is also a day to remember the greatest Valentine of all, our Lord who loves us so much.  As I was skiing on Saturday/Sunday when we had such incredibly perfect winter weather, I spent time outside just soaking up the sunshine, and worshiping the Lord in the beauty of His creation.  There are a lot of ugly, evil, and scary things going on in our world... but when I go outside into His creation, all those things disappear and my heart is full of His love and joy once more. I think this is the remedy for a broken, cast down heart and spirit... spend some time outside with the One who loves you so much that He created this beautiful world for our hearts to be restored in.

May the love of the greatest Valentine be with you today in a special way!

    1. Thanks Marie... I try to find beauty wherever I can, and I do love winter, although often it far overstays its welcome :)

  3. I so enjoyed your video of the Mama and Baby moose, Marilyn. Glad they could break free from their entanglement in the fence and escape to the safety of the woods.
All your photos here are glorious, too. You certainly make all of us want to celebrate winter just that much more.
    Blessings!

    1. It was an electric fence, I don't know if it was on or not. I'm glad they got untangled too! Winter is a glorious season, but we do look forward now to spring :)

  4. What a sight to see the Mama Moose and her baby. And how wonderful that you skied in that beautiful snow close to your house and saw the sunset coming up as you were leaving. That cloud is beautiful and it looks like an angel to me. Marilyn, I just loved your words of appreciation at the end. They brought a tear to my eye, as I appreciate nature so much, and I also said Happy Valentine's Day to the Holy family, which brings me so much peace. I am so blessed to have you as a blog friend, and it's a day late, but Happy Valentine's Day. It's never too late for love. : )

  6. Now I must look to see if the moon is out during this lovely day. When I was up in the night, the house was full of moonlight. I always look to see where the moon is in the sky. It was very high. What a great sight to see the moose...were they getting shocked by the electric fence? I don't think so.

  7. Strawberry shortcake trifle for Valentines Day is such a good idea. I hope I remember it for next year.
I've been watching the moon as it gets closer and closer to full but unfortunately clouds have once again moved in so no moon spotting tonight ( or the rest of this week).
I'm glad the moose mama and baby got untangled. I almost thought the young one was limping after it finally managed to free itself.

  8. Marilyn, you love winter, your snowy mountains and all they have to offer the way I love summer and the beach. Of course, your winter view is so much prettier than mine. Perhaps if my view were like yours, I might venture out into the cold a little more. Or not! Haha! Thanks for sharing your blue skies with us! xo

    1. Having mountains in your view truly is spectacular, as they have their own weather patterns, and the skies are always so magnificent with the mountains in view. I love winter, but now, I am ready for spring!

  9. Oh wow! The images are so beautiful. I love a blue sky like that. I remember as a early teenager, I used to lie on the grass and stare up at that blue sky, thinking that I needed an outfit in that color.

  14. Hello Marilyn. What beautiful photos as always. It was fun to see the Mama Moose and her baby. I haven't seen moose since the last time we were on Mt. Spokane. They walked through the meadow where we were eating lunch. They ignored us and we pretended to be statues. They are HUGE. I see an angel in your cloud photo. It's flying "long and low" and I imagine it to be protecting you and your loved ones as you skiied.
I'm glad you had a good Valentine's Day. Filled with love.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  22. As usual, such beautiful photos of your wonderful area! how wonderful to be able to ski from your backdoor! I always thought how neat it was I could ride my horse from my back door up into the mountains. When I had horses, I always lived right in the middle of where I could actually ride. It was so wonderful. I watched your moose ideo on YouTube. I like the videos you are doing... just glory to portray! That strawberry trifle looks awesome. I need to find me a recipe and make it as my mouth is watering! You are full of snow.. and we are full of sunshine here where I live.. and warm days. I have spring fever now.. but this coming week is supposed to get super cold again, and maybe snow and/or rain. Nights will be in the single digits again. I've already mowed my lawn once and done some yardwork on my Irises.. pulling off all the dead leaves from last year. Before I know it, new ones will be popping up...in fact now that I've cleared the dead stuff, I can see the new green chutes coming up. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I almost wish my son and his fiance would move up to that area so I can follow them and move there also! Her family lives up by Priest Lake and my son absolutely loves it there! Hugs... Marilyn
