The Grandeur of a New Moon

I've always loved to watch a new moon rise.  There is such anticipation when the light fades, and darkness takes over the landscape, as the soft brush of white light begins to rise.  Through the years, I've taken my fair share of pictures of the moon, but never have had much success with those pictures.

Last night, I finally was able to accomplish a goal of mine - to take a picture of the moon where you could actually see the moon, as opposed to just a white circle of light in the sky.

The first picture I took wasn't so great, but things got better!

I readjusted the focus, and ta-da!  Finally - a picture of the moon, that actually looks like the moon, where the moon is more than a blob of white light in the sky.

Some fun edits on the moon picture:

I used the following settings on my camera (which is a Canon T5i), using my telephoto lens.
ISO 100
Shutter speed 1/125
F/stop  11

Note: Using a tripod is absolutely necessary to capture a shot of the moon, because you can't hold the camera still enough to focus with the heavy telephoto lens.

Photography is a large world, and my camera never ceases to amaze me with all it can do.  I still have so much to learn, but I am enjoying the journey!
