HAPPY NEW YEAR! And some exciting news!

Happy New Year to all of you, my dear friends

I hope that the holidays were special in every way for all of you and your families.

We had a special season celebrating the Lord's birth with our children.

A picture of Dan and I at our Christmas Eve service. I put together the program, "An Old Testament Christmas" for our church. It tells of the beautiful story of the birth of our Lord as seen through the Old Testament and then fulfilled in the New Testament. It really is an amazing thing that so many different prophets foretold exactly of the Lord's birth, and yet, it still came in such an unexpected way.

Our family gathered together for Christmas dinner.

A special gift for my children this year - I made them a Moseley Family Cookbook with all of my favorite recipes, along with others in the family, for them to always have our cherished family recipes.

Little Ash inspecting the cookbook {smiles}

It was fun putting this cookbook together, although a lot of work! I had to go through a lot of cookbooks. I plan to do a separate post sharing a bit more information about this project :)

A Christmas gift for me... oh my! A learning curve here, lots to learn with this machine! Do any of you have a Cameo Silhouette cutting machine? I'm currently watching videos on how to use it.

Sharing some beautiful scenes that we have enjoyed in the month of December here... the skies have been incredible! Often grey is the main color theme of our winters here, but this December, we have had a lot of sunshine mixed in, and it has been wonderful!

A little "pot-o-gold' on the hillsides!

The kitties enjoying the snow from inside looking out.
They are not as thrilled about the snow as the dogs are!

Walking in subzero temperatures... I was bundled up and warm and cozy inside, but the ice had built up on the fur around the hood, and I looked a bit frozen, even though I wasn't!

After Christmas, we had a week of polar arctic air visit us where temperatures hovered close to zero for a week. We had to really bundle up on our daily walks!

New Year's Eve was such a beautiful day here, although cold! We went up to Schweitzer Mountain to cross-country ski. Dan had only skied downhill before this. It was a gorgeous day to ski the mountain!

We had the trails mostly to ourselves, away from the crowds. It was spectacular!

What a gorgeous day it was!

We skied several miles across the ridge of Schweitzer, and the views were glorious!

We skied up to the warming hut and peeked in. Not much to see, but it was nice to know it was there.

Back home... the dogs were enjoying all the snow we have gotten this year.

A neighbor's home in the closing moments of daylight one evening as I walked.

Our home wrapped in its snowy blanket!

Evening skies vibrant with the sun's waning rays.

Night comes softly with great beauty in these December skies.

Rosy sunrise skies welcome the new day.

Rock cuts are covered in ice.

More amazing December skies!

Our community fireworks show was canceled in July due to extreme fire danger. They decided to have the show on New Year's Eve instead.  With the temps hovering around 0, you can see the steam coming out as the fireworks are deployed!

Most everyone stayed in their cars to watch the show!

I did get out to take these pictures but was glad to
climb back into the warm car after the show ended!

So that wraps up our Christmas and New Year celebrations... but we also have some exciting news to share that happened right around Christmas, and New Year's.

Zak and Danielle became first-time homeowners! It was a very long process in this difficult real estate market, but we are thrilled for them! It is a fixer-upper home, but they have great plans for it, and Zak is in the carpentry business. We are so excited that they will be able to have their own place now, and soon, I'm told, we'll have grand-doggies... not to be confused with grandchildren... but we are getting closer {smiles}

And congratulations to our son and his fiancee Alanna... she said yes! He proposed to her over the New Year's holiday and now we are quite excited to be adding a daughter to our family :)

Alanna is such a sweet girl, and we are so happy for them!

Well, I think I've just about written a book, and it's time to close for now! I hope to be back soon, and share some more about the Family Cookbook I created. It is such a special treasure, I think every family needs one :)

Wishing all of you God's very best for each of you in this coming year!

  9. Hello Marilyn, The photos you take are breathtaking and make me so homesick for Spokane. Yesterday I heard from three friends there about how wrong it is that we've moved. It's wonderful to know we have such good friends isn't it?
We've had cold, cold weather here for the past week or so. This morning was -21F windchill. Right now it's -5 and feels like a heat wave. The sky is blue though and that makes a huge difference doesn't it? The blue over the mountains in your photos is stunning.
The cookbook is a great idea. I did that one Christmas for the girls in our family and our adopted daughter in Japan. I did it the inexpensive way though and just used 3 ring binders. I've been in charge of cookbooks for the church in the past and know how much work they are.
Congratulations on your childrens big news. A new daughter and a new home. Life is always changing isn't it?
We plan to come to Spokane for a month in the spring/early summer. We're both itching to see our mountains again. God has us here for a reason and we're grateful that He has provided us with a home and family near by.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. Oh sweet Betsy, always so good to hear from you! I'm thankful that you are with family in Nebraska, but I can surely understand how your heart misses the mountains here in Washington/Idaho! That is a miserable windchill! We don't have wind here, and that is huge! That windchill really makes it feel so much colder! Thank you for the congrats on our children's news, it has been a very exciting time for both of them :) I'm so glad you are getting to come back to Spokane for a visit, that will be so wonderful for you! Perhaps you can come here for the summers, since they are so amazing here! Blessings to you dear friend, and a Happy New Year to you!

I've never been in temps that cold before. Seattle has gotten down to the teens but I don't think I ever went out in it!

We went cross-country skiing for the first time last year and I loved it! The scenery was beautiful and the actual skiing wasn't too strenuous. I'd really like to go again one day. Praying you and your family have a blessed New Year!

    1. Thank you Cindy, we are so happy for our children :) It is definitely very cold temps, but we've learned how to dress in layers and stay warm. We are blessed here to not have winds very much, so we don't have a windchill factor. Cross-country skiing is really so much fun, and you get to see such beautiful countryside, I think that is why I love it so much. Thank you for your wonderful visit, and a Happy New Year to you!

  24. Hi Marilyn! Such a beautiful post today! Your photos are just stunning as usual.. love all of the yellows and golds in the skies and on the mountains! You have so much news! good news for your son's engagement and good news of your daughter and hubby's new home. How neat for them! I bet they are super excited! My son, at age 41 (2 years ago) just got his first ever home of his own. I was SO excited for him. it too was a fixer upper and he and his fiance and his dad have done alot of work on it and it's a wonderful cozy home on 1 acre. Now they, of course, want something with more acreage! I only have a Cricuit Expression, one of the first ones that came out.. still works great, but it's too old to connect with Cricuit Design Space now.. and a Cameo I think is a different machine from a Cricut? I'm not sure! All I know is I would love one that I can connect to design space to buy images as my old one can only use the Cricut cartridges which are almost nonexistent now. I would love something that scans and cuts.. not sure if Cameo does that but I bet it does. Probably take a class on using it! You guys are so brave to go out cross country skiing in 0 degree weather! Brave souls you are! And the cookbook is wonderful. I've been wanting to do that for years and go back and forth between just making it myself (physically typing the recipes and printing them out) or sending it all to one of the online printers out there. Just so happy for all of your great news! Hugs.. Marilyn

    1. Thank you Marilyn, truly it has been a winter of winters here, so glorious! We did get some crazy weather Friday, with rain, after all that snow, and now everything has turned to ice! We are wearing ice picks to walk, as it is like a skating rink out there!

It is so exciting for our kids to get their own place, as they can't wait to have animals, and children in time, I'm told :) Sooner than later I hope!

My Cameo will scan and cut. You print the image out from the design space, and the printer includes some marks that the cutter then recognizes, and cuts from that. It's pretty amazing. I still haven't gotten it to work yet though... so there's that. A learning curve! But, I'm told that it does work. Ha. So I keep watching videos, hoping to figure it out. I think you would really love the cutter, especially if it would help with cutting things out for you. That's what I want it for too. So, I will keep you posted on that saga... lol!

The cookbook has bene something I wanted to do for years. So, you might be interested in my post today, I am doing a giveaway with regards to the cookbook!

Keeping you in my prayers... hugs and love!

  27. Lovely photos, as always, Marilyn. I pinned several of them to my "Winter" board, they are so glorious. Great news for your kids -- congratulations to all of them!

I've tried cross-country skiing twice and was unsuccessful both times. My daughters always enjoyed it, though. My hubby prefers to snowshoe. Glad you've found it to be a winter sport you enjoy! Once I get back on my feet from a crazy, month-long bout with sciatica, maybe I can think about trying snowshoeing with the new, smaller snowshoes that seem much easier to handle.
