Blue Sky Days

Monday, January 31, 2022

Blue skies have blessed us with their presence in the last few days, as the sun races across the sky, gaining 2 minutes of daylight daily. How wonderful it is to have daylight now until 5 p.m. !  When winter solstice arrives, our sun doesn't rise until 7:30 a.m., and it sets around 3:30 p.m.  Those are some very short days! But... once we cross that line, the sun really does seem to gather speed as daylight increases each day.

This is my view whenever I need to run a quick errand into our little town...
pure delight always, but especially with those blue skies!

Snow-covered roads but we have blue skies!

Glorious horizons with blue skies shimmering above.

Something about blue skies in the winter just makes the heart smile!

One morning as we walked, the skies were pink with anticipation of the blue sky day... and then we spotted these three deer, another smile for the day!

Morning sunshine glistens on the alpines.

The roads are still quite treacherous with ice underneath the snow. Annie seems to have forgotten all about her injury, and I have to remind her to take it slow!

These morning views as we walk are just the perfect way to start our day!

This is the kind of blue that doesn't make you feel blue!

After days of fog.... the horizon and skies are just beautiful to see!

And at dusk... those blue skies send off the day with the sweetest goodnight delight!

Colossians 3:1-2

If ye then be risen with Christ,

seek those things which are above,

where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above,

not on things on the earth.

The Lord impressed my heart this week with these words out of Colossians 3:1-2 as I had my daily devotions and my sweet kitties joined me {Smiles}

The scripture says to set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. It was a great encouragement and reminder to me - to not look to things on the earth, but to remember our heart's greatest delight comes in knowing we have heaven awaiting us. This earth is full of sorrow, trauma, tears, and grief; there are delights, joys, loves, and beautiful things we get to enjoy here on earth.  But our greatest hope is in that which we have not yet seen, heard, or tasted of.  It is in this hope we rest in.

When the world around us crushes us with its agony and sorrow, such misery and tempest on every hand... we must remember earth's journey is a season, and one day it too shall pass and the things that are eternal will remain.

Keep your hope steadfast, look up, and remember there are always blue skies ahead. It may be raining, foggy, snowing, or cloudy today... but soon the blue skies will return :)

And if you'd like to listen to another encouraging video, here is another one that I have recently uploaded to my YouTube channel. Be sure to visit my channel and see the videos I have been creating :)

This video features my dear friend Cheryl from Homespun Devotions, and the bluegrass band Mountain Hope Band that she is a part of! They sing old hymns and bluegrass songs, and you will enjoy the beautiful harmony from their band along with pictures I've put to their music.

May the hope of heaven fill your heart with joy today!

  3. Oh my! Photos of home. I'm so homesick for the mountains of N. Idaha and E. Washington. There is no blue sky like the ones there. Thank you Marilyn. The photos are indeed gorgeous.
I love to listen to Cheryl and the band she's in. So much talent.
    Blessings,

  4. Marilyn, these views are just outstanding!! We passed three deer in on the side of the road yesterday. They were gathered in the snowy woods on their way to the beach. They were positioned so sweetly, I wanted to pick them up and plop them on my mantel!! Thanks for sharing your photos!

  5. The blue skies around your neck of the woods are really pretty, Marilyn. We've had a few days of blue skies, but not too many this Winter. And to see those deer on your walk is such a gift. Yes, the blue skies will appear soon enough, but I will appreciate the cold Winter days while they are here. It's part of nature that keeps me grounded. Your photos are always like a breath of fresh air, Marilyn. And you live in a lovely part of the world.

    Happy February days.

  12. Beautiful blue sky and so much snow!! We're halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox now and I'm looking forward to warm weather. (yes, I know it will be many weeks yet, but it's nice to think that we're getting there.)

  13. Such a lovely world you live in Marilyn! It brings back such wonderful memories of when I lived in SW Washington up in the mountains. We had views like that, and stunning blue skies against the snow. We didn't get to see the sunsets like you do though, those came when we moved to La Pine, Oregon and those were the most gorgeous sunsets I had ever seen (other than yours of course!). Your scripture time with your kitties is so precious for sure. They look like such sweet darlings. I'm also glad to see the days getting a little longer. It is now light here until almost 6:00! I forget how it stays darker up in the northern U.S. Thank you for sharing your blessed area where you live, and photos you take, and your thoughts and scriptures that are dear to you. You are such a dear! Hugs.. Marilyn
